5. I keep wondering why people at the rating agencies aren't in prison. |
|
:grr:
They are possibly threatening to downgrade the government's rating in order to force the US to "do something" about Medicare/Medicaid and Social Security? Meaning, of course, privatize them? Oh really?
The very people who were such a big part of causing the economic collapse feel secure in trying to force the government to take actions that would undermine the financial well-being of so many American people, so that wealthy investors could get access to more wealth in the markets?
They need to be held accountable for their actions, and their arrogance.
Reps in our government need to stop holding them in reverence and start seeing them as the criminals they really are.
Their excuse when they cause all these problems? Their ratings are just "opinions" that nobody should really rely upon in making any important decisions, so they aren't responsible for what anyone does based on their faked ratings. If that is true, then they are saying publicly that their ratings have no value, no predictive value, no worth, and nobody should ever pay for their opinions. They should therefore go out of business.
If, on the other hand, their opinions are worth paying for, then they believe their opinions have some predictive and informative value, which contradicts their testimony, which means they lied to congress.
Congress should hold them to this contradiction they have created. Either their opinions mean nothing, and they should go out of business voluntarily. Or their opinions have value, they try to stay in business, and get prosecuted for lying to Congress.
