2. marijuana prohibition is like creationism
some people are wedded to a belief system and no amount of reasoning or evidence will sway them -

but we've already seen the hypocrisy of the govt that will allow corporations to dispense cannabis products (and legalize just the pharmaecutical-company derived medical product, but not an independent citizen.

just another example of the failure of govt to treat people with the same respect they treat corporations.

3. It seems for many, that if they 'know' something, it must be true and they never look
beyond that. My sisters hit thirty and decided they had no reason to learn another thing, other than what faux spews. They demonize me because I smoke, yet they, and their husbands, get shit-faced drunk, get DUI's and I'm the criminal. I, knock on wood, have never been arrested.

Our government has zero respect for we the people, it's beyond obvious now. I see no end unless we all stand up; and as long as AI is on probably 75% will be no shows.

:hi:

4. There is a recent study that backs that up
Giving them facts only makes them cling to the false information harder.

5. Good to know my observations have back-up somewhere. It's very sad

to know someone feels they have no reason to enlighten themselves because they are told not to by TPTB.

Independent thought created this country, willful ignorance is killing it and destroying many innocent lives over a plant.

7. what I wonder about
Edited on Thu Apr-21-11 09:48 AM by RainDog
is how the govt can continue to schedule marijuana as it does when it is now in the process of making whole cannabis medicine (Sativex) available as a prescription.

this is an impossible distortion of reality - to claim that whole cannabis that is marketed via a pharmaceutical company is somehow different than the same marijuana that is dispensed in shops in California.

I suppose the fed's suppression of individual rights up to this point has allowed the pharmaceuticals to stake a claim in the market - while destroying the credibility of the govt in order to let those whose lives are determined by profit and market share to oppress others.

sort of the very opposite of the entire rationale for our founding as a nation and an example of how far we've fallen away from the idea of personal liberty and the right to make decisions for ourselves - tho, of course, this same hypocrisy has been around since the founding - I would just hope that, over time, we could correct for our prejudices by looking at history to see the abuses done in its name.

6. the science of why we don't believe in science
http://motherjones.com/politics/2011/03/denial-science-chris-mooney

confirmation bias goes on all the time for all of us on all sides of issues - including this one. those of us who support legalization can be just as guilty - but the proviso in this case is that there has been so much false and misleading propaganda, so many down right lies, that it is the rational position to question any negative story - this is the problem with "calling wolf" in any public health issue.

what I think is amazing is that, in spite of decades of propaganda about cannabis, 70% of Americans for YEARS, not just since the recent press and articles about the medical benefits of non-synthetic, whole plant cannabis, have supported legal medical marijuana use.

too many of us have had family members go through the pain of chemotherapy to buy into the b.s. about the dangers in the face of such devastation and the remarkable benefits for so many from cannabis as an adjunct to deal with side effects of chemotherapy.

too many of us have dealt with negative side effects from pharmaceutical medicines to simply accept that their product is superior in all circumstances - in the case of m.s. and c.p. - with migraines, with arthritis - again, the SHAME in all this is that our govt. colludes with those who would deny Americans a medical option because it's not profitable for the few - this is exactly the same case with the health insurance industry and health care in America too.

...which is why you get so many people who have no respect for institutions or those who are part of them.

I hope I have complied with the edit request and have demonstrated that the article I referenced has only four direct quotes.
