Benton Harbor, MI is 10,235 population town. 85.5% of the residents are African-American. The per capita income is among the lowest in the state: $10,235.

Michigan Governor Rick Snyder recently castrated the city government of the struggling town, using his controversial “Emergency Financial Managers” law. The law, as Raw Story previously reported, allows Snyder to “take over municipalities that don’t pass a financial stress test.”

3. I use to live near there and if I remember correctly there are marinas and other tourist attractions...
My guess is that they want to move the population out of town and buy the land cheap and develop it for a wealthier clientele.

4. WHIRLPOOL CORP
is located in Benton City. I understand Benton City has a beautiful beach front park given to the city in perpetutity. Whirlpool sees an advantage to build a gazillon dollar golf course with gazillon dollar houses there - figure it out.

5. Has no one challenged this in court yet? I cannot see how this law can possilby legal.
Someone in Michigan should file a lawsuit challenging its constitutionality and asking for an injunction delaying its use until the courts rule on its legality...
