Roommate indicted in Rutgers University suicide case

The roommate of the Rutgers University freshmen who killed himself after his sexual encounter with another man was broadcast online was indicted Wednesday on privacy and bias charges, the prosecutor of Middlesex County in New Jersey announced.

A grand jury indicted Dharun Ravi, 19, on 15 counts including invasion of privacy, bias intimidation, tampering with physical evidence, witness tampering, and hindering apprehension or prosecution.

Ravi's attorney could not be immediately reached for comment.

The indictment alleged that Ravi secretly viewed and streamed online the encounter between his roommate, Tyler Clementi, and another man in September of last year. Authorities said Ravi allegedly secretly placed a camera in the room and accessed it remotely.

5. Good. And not surprising. Also not surprising that they haven't

(yet) attempted to indict Molly Wei -- since the case against her appears much shakier. They probably want her testimony against him.

According to the prosecutor's office, "It also has been determined that charges previously filed against a co-defendant, Molly W. Wei<, 19> … would not be presented to the grand jury at this time."

Wei, say prosecutors, "is charged with two counts of invasion of privacy arising from the September 19, 2010, incident. The charges are pending and the case against her remains active."
