Paul Ryan is an evil motherfucker. He collected Social Security benefits as a teen
after his father died. Un-fucking-believable.

------------------------------------

http://www.dailykos.com/story/2011/04/19/968549/-Entitlement-hating-Paul-Ryan-collected-Social-Security-benefits-until-he-was-18

One day as a 16 year old, Ryan came upon the lifeless body of his father. Paul Ryan, Sr. had died of a heart attack at age 55, leaving the Janesville Craig High School 10th grader, his three older brothers and sisters and his mother alone. It was Paul who told the family of his father’s death.

With his father’s passing, young Paul collected Social Security benefits until age 18, which he put away for college. To make ends meet, Paul’s mother returned to school to study interior design. His siblings were off at college. Ryan remembers this difficult time bringing him and his mother closer.

Within months, Paul’s maternal grandmother moved into the house. She suffered from Alzheimer’s, and it often fell on young Paul to care for her, including brushing and braiding her hair. Ryan credits his father’s death and the care of his grandmother as giving him first-hand experience as to how social service programs work.

--------------------------------

Pure fucking evil.

2. A fellow from my high school benefitted from welfare as a kid
and now that he's a evangelical preacher with a doctoral degree, he swears that it's evil and rails about the "feminization of poverty". What a shithead.

3. Yes, he is
And it seems that he truly resented having to take care of his grandmother...why else would he put forward a program that would put the health of other grandparents in the hands of profiteers...

4. So did our very own Cutter in Chief, Kent Conrad.
The pull up the ladder brigade should be stoned and I don't mean 420 style (though it would help).

11. Well, I have to say, I find fault with this analysis two ways
First, Paul himself would not have collected the benefits, they would have been applied for by an adult who was in charge of his care. The fact that his mother allowed it to be put away for college shows that at least he was raised by a prudent individual, no matter how that turned out.

Second, while I know Ryan has suggested sweeping changes to Medicare, I don't recall that he's proposed anything regarding Social Security. I expect someone here will correct me if I've missed something.

14. I think it speaks more to his and Republicans mindeset that the programs in the
"Social Safety Net" are a waste and only help "freeloaders". It speaks mostly to his hypocrisy.

15. Again, what hypocrisy?
The Social Security would have been provided to his mother when she applied for survivor's benefits, and quite naturally, she would have listed any children she had under eighteen, and by law, they would have been provided for, too.

Are you and I to be judged by everything our parents ever did, even if they nominally did it on our behalf?

17. I see the hypocrisy as he/his family recieved SS benefits, and it helped him get to college
and provide for his family, but now, he wants to take away those same benefits and programs from others.

Maybe you just don't see it the same as me, no worries.

13. He's a hypocrite.
He benefited from them, but he doesn't want anyone else to benefit from them? Apparently caring for his grandmother made him hate senior citizens, which explains his attacks on Medicare. What an evil, evil man.
