2010 - a record breaking year for....
weather related tragedy.

I just heard that on the radio. More people have been displaced, injured or died this year as a result of weather than in 120 years of record keeping. Pakistan floods, Australia floods, Russia burns with heatwaves, the middle east burns with drought all affect food stability.

The danger of climate change is tangible. It does not discriminate on religion, colour, race or gender. All across the entire globe, climate change has challenged food crops, displaced people and killed unfortunate individuals. It makes the threat of terrorism seem a petty complaint, and the annual spending to the military industrial complex worldwide - a foolhardy investment given the real threat facing us all.

It is the wildcard of any economic recovery.
The utter silence from our leaders regarding this is damning. The "leadership" they showed just recently regarding climate change is.....less than nothing.

Here is an early New Year's wish....
May the sun shine brightly,
and the world's troubles fade away,
May your health be hearty,
and best wishes to all,
in the year 2011, from its very first day.

1. But it is snowing
And that proves that there is no global warming and that none of that happened....or if it happened it is normal.
At least that is what my right wing Friends say.

3. Screw the Progressive vs whacko right wing politics on this
I have just as many progressive friends that wonder about global warming - now CLIMATE CHANGE,as I do right wing, though I do admit to not that many right of center friends (mostly family members).
Hey, five years ago it was global warming, irreversible, never a record cold winter again. NEVER. Well, when that didn't pan out, hey, let's call it climate change, so no matter the temperature, we have it covered!
Oh, and don't forget the hurricane forecasts after Katrina. Each spring we are treated to the usual 'this is going to be a bad hurricane season, 10 storms hitting at least' and then - NOTHING. Year after year after year of heavy hurricane forecasts, rare hurricanes actually forming and hitting. Am I supposed to ignore these very inaccurate predictions because of supposed politics?! EVERY year?

So I object to this being called a political issue when my circle of mostly progressive friends and I see climate people all of the map over the past several years, more often than not 100% wrong on predictions.

Have a sky is falling sky is falling mentality?! Take it up with the 911 911 TERRA! TERRA! bush crowd.
Don't take it up with me. I won't respond. It was not my predictions that were proven wrong the last 10 years, so, I have nothing to defend.

6. I have articles about climate from the 70's that all are being proven right
righter every month.

Keeping up the blinders will make make lots of us comfy folks feel better though! :D

7. Go ahead and object - it won't change facts
Predictions are not facts. Fact is that weather related tragedy has affected more peoples from around the world this year than any other kept on record.

Stand by your convictions that because the weather bureau failed to accurately predict hurricane forecasts means climate change is nothing but swirling air - Mother Nature does not give a rat's ass if you think this might be a political issue or not. She does what she does regardless.

An estimated 6(?) BILLION souls occupy this little blue marble. And if you think that our impact on that will have absolutely NO effect on climate - then you have a great deal more faith...no it is not faith...you just don't care as long as the hurricane season doesnt blow down your house - you don't give a shit.

2. The world is going to pay for the callousness of indifference from
the Western world. Sooner than we think climate change will make itself known to all. Extreme weather doesn't care if you're a poor nation or a rich one.

5. long as the comfy pink people are happy it's okay!
I hope the cold in Florida makes up the minds of some "pro-life" knuckle-dragging Earth-raping Christians down there who put their rich fat daddies in charge of the fycking future.

I want them to sleep soundly knowing their pudgy pasty generation has always done right by the whole gyddamned planet.

9. When DUers are asked to list their top ten issues "The environment" or
"climate change" very rarely appears on many of them. Obama never talks about it. People somehow think that they are separate from the earth that they inhabit, and that their actions have no consequences. What can you do personally? The biggest contributor to climate change isn't autos, it's meat production. Eat less meat or no meat. Need inspiration? Google "earthlings documentary" (free online) More facts: http://www.mcspotlight.org/media/reports/beyond.html#3
