To assist with evaluating the photos before casting your votes please read this:

Negative Space

To help you understand the photographer's aim let me point out that in looking at a photo we see Positive Space, which is the subject matter, and Negative Space, which is the background to set it off.

Looking at the Negative space can be extremely interesting, often the negative space is of equal value or even of greater visual power.

In looking at the photographs please evaluate how pleasing the interaction of positive and negative space is to you, and also how well you think they are balanced in the image.

The top two finishers in each round will advance to the finals, along with the next four highest vote-getters overall.
The preliminary round will run until approximately Noon on Easter Sunday.

1. "Willin'" is an excellent example of the use of negative space, IMO. For me, an effective negative

space photo is one that isn't exactly clear, at first look, what it's meant to be. And then all of a sudden, boom, you're looking at a huge truck far away, when you thought you were looking at the edge of a leaf close up.

"Willin' really shows exhibits the loneliness of a long distance hauler. Now I'll have that song in my head all day. I think I'll pick the Boz Skaggs version. "Arabesque" is a great study in fragile grace, so delicate a breath of wind could spoil it. The negative space really accents it.

There are no bad ones. Good job everyone.
