What's this 'they' shit when referring to a comment made by a State Dept. spokesman? |
|
Edited on Tue Dec-14-10 04:56 PM by bigtree
Crowley isn't the White House, he's a state Dept. spokesperson. He's not 'administration officials', and he's the only one quoted disputing the earlier report of Richard Holbrooke's 'last words'. He's not the President either. He made his own statement on the loss and he's responsible for them. Can't we discuss the tragedy without exploiting the words of a dying man for political purposes?
Crowley should stfu about it; and so should those who took some comfort in believing he said 'end the war', but are parading it around like Mr. Holbrooke had defected to A.N.S.W.E.R in his last moments.
It isn't doing any justice or good to the memory of this man's public mission and accomplishments by squabbling around his demise using some second-hand account of his personal impression of the U.S. military involvement in Afghanistan to make political points against this administration, or for anything else. That accounting will, undoubtedly, come out in its own time. I'd think that the accounts of those closest to him would be afforded the most credence in that effort (if it occurs).

1. If you had actually read the article... |
|
... you would know that they also covered Gibb's comments, which echoed the State Department.
Ergo, "they" means the people who were making the idiotic, jackass statement that Mr. Holbrooke was joking on his deathbed, i.e. the State Department and THE SPOKESMAN FOR THE ADMINISTRATION.
Please continue defending anything and everything at will..

2. It's a shame that Gibbs feels he has to echo it |
|
but he's still speaking for himself.

7. he should stfu about it, too |
|
. . . it's still not clear that he was speaking for the WH or relating what he personally believed was true. Neither man was there. They were relating something they'd heard. They chose to believe it. They should have left it alone.
But that doesn't excuse all of the politicking around the statements, from anyone.

4. Crowley's statement is representative of the WH |
|
Maybe Crowley was given the fall guy job the PR Spin time around. Who knows...
Regardless of any scenario as to the how and why this disrespect of Holbrook now in the MSM, and equally regardless of how this may also be a red herring to distract the public (especially we Libruls!) from the tax deal brouhaha, it IS a statement now out there, and is one that Crowley, by proxy of his position in public, has made, and is representative of the WH, vetted statement or not.

In the meantime, I wish whoever related this in the first place had waited. The politics stinks.

He came to Jesus, doncha know?
All his pre-confession warmongering work is forgiven!
Gawd, this whole episode demonstrates very clearly what some sharp philosophers were pointing out in the 1960's: that elements of the Left practice little more than secular Catholicism. I just threw up in my mouth.
