On my way to a vigil. Can anyone give a K&R to my murdered neighbors?

Edited on Thu Apr-21-11 08:24 PM by Mimosa
IMO, if it is proven the man cold-bloodedly murdered ex-wife and daughter. IMO this is a death penalty case if the evidence so supports. (Watching "12 Angry Men" right now.)

Crazy men kill ex-wives and their children...sadly...frequently.It just happened daughter was gay.

Big diff. And I think that being so homophobic that you resort to murder makes you psycho in and of itself. I think being rabidly homophobic makes one psycho (without resorting to murder).

None of us know the killer personally, so I would refrain from making assumptions about what he would or would not have done esp. not knowing the actual details of the case. The victims deserve at least that.

Why not just disown the daughter? Or kill himself if he was so distraught. Well, he may as well be dead because he's got life with no parole.

27. I don't know. The Atlanta child murders was a huge story at the time
and even to this day. CNN just did a big expose on the case a few weeks ago. And in that case, a serial killer was targeting black kids and teenagers. The college student who jumped off a bridge after he was secretly taped with his male lover has also recently gotten a lot of media attention. Conversely, the other night I posted a story on the DU about a serial killer in Chicago who is targeting AA girls and women. The story was ignored.

39. However, you never seem to see "special reports" on these cable news channels
Talking about how often the LGBT community is targeted by violence. I think, maybe, that's what the OP was getting at. Profiling a serial killer who targets AAs is good "policy" because you don't have too many AA serial killers. So that makes the story unique and newsworthy. Another gay individual gets killed, and unless they're staked out to a fence in the middle of Montana, or is a fashion designer, you don't hear too much about it on CNN or M$NBC.

49. What a tragedy!
Edited on Fri Apr-22-11 10:13 AM by AlbertCat
But y'know what is getting me angry is... in the article:

They say the situation turned tragic. It did. But it did so because of a single drunk male.... with a gun tucked in his belt. I think that detail is important. "It" didn't just "turn" tragic. "He" made it become tragic with a considerable amount of effort. Drunk and armed.... how American!

And now they are gonna "pray for justice". Praying is useless... you're gonna have to do more than that if you want justice. I'm sick of supernatural solutions and being told to rely on them.

Wasn't the daughter beautiful!

54. I've read the sad story about this on several sites this past week. I'm sorry if
your local news isn't covering it, but we know about the hateful rightwing dad who murdered his daughter's girlfriend and her mom down here in Florida. Texas is a death penalty State, so she'll likely lose her father as well over his backwards teabagger beliefs and actions (unless the justice system there is totally corrupt). Just another reason why we cannot allow homophobia to persist in our society.

58. Look at this nice comment (the first one)
"I understand what he was feeling. Total failure. I would have felt the same, but rather than kill someone, I simply would have disowned the girl and left the area."

Wow... I don't think this is a troll either. People really feel this way. Note how the story said that the event was "polarizing." To people really think they deserved it?

We are a sick nation.

68. Murder is murder
It is horrible no matter who the victim is. As the relative of a "white, straight, blonde" who was very brutally murdered, I kind of resent the title of your post. I don't know about the South, but hate crimes get a lot of press up here. Chicago has a large gay community, and large Latino and African American communities.

My relative's murder did not make the national news. It wouldn't have made me feel any better if it had. I'm sorry for your loss, but my white, straight, blonde relative is just as dead as your neighbors, whether it was covered by the national media or not.

Not sure why I should be "fucking considered" about anyone's murder. I don't even know what that means.
