This is a day that has been set aside to commemorate a brutal execution. Today, we remember a man who was tortured and killed because he spoke out about the injustices of his day and the hypocrisy of those who were supposed to be the moral leaders of the people.
Just for the words he said, they figured he deserved to be tortured and put to death.
Whatever your religious beliefs, or lack thereof, this is an important story to remember and reflect upon.

7. You don't have to believe a story is factual in order for it to move you. |
|
It's a timeless story of truth versus power and the brutality of the ruling class. I choose to believe it actually happened that way, but the story retains its impact either way.
Also, whether its historical or fiction, none can deny that the story of the crucifixion has been around for a very long time. The concepts embodied are timeless.

11. I believe it as a historical account. The supernatural stuff is what lost me. |
|
I believe it's very likely that Jesus was a real man, and that he was crucified.

4. "The bankers and the preachers, they nailed him on the cross, and they laid Jesus Christ in his |
|
grave." -- Woody Guthrie
Jesus Christ was a man who traveled through the land A hard-working man and brave He said to the rich, "Give your money to the poor," But they laid Jesus Christ in His grave
Jesus was a man, a carpenter by hand His followers true and brave One dirty little coward called Judas Iscariot Has laid Jesus Christ in His Grave
He went to the preacher, He went to the sheriff He told them all the same "Sell all of your jewelry and give it to the poor," And they laid Jesus Christ in His grave.
When Jesus come to town, all the working folks around Believed what he did say But the bankers and the preachers, they nailed Him on the cross, And they laid Jesus Christ in his grave.
And the people held their breath when they heard about his death Everybody wondered why It was the big landlord and the soldiers that they hired To nail Jesus Christ in the sky
This song was written in New York City Of rich man, preacher, and slave If Jesus was to preach what He preached in Galilee, They would lay poor Jesus in His grave.
