None of this was a surprise....although the depths of illegality in the mortgage industry did exceed all expectations. However, the blithe lack of prosecution has been normal.

The economy was due for a recession in 2002-2003 after the dot.com bubble burst, but 'ol Easy Al wasn't about to let that happen. Pump cheap Fed 1% money into the economy and let a bigger bubble build...the housing market.
