Orlando ripoff gas station: $5.69/gal for regular
Source: Orlando Sentinel

Gas prices are on the rise nationwide, but one filling station in Florida has earned the dubious distinction of having the highest prices in the country.

Suncoast Energys, located near the Orlando International Airport, was charging $5.69 a gallon for regular gasoline on Friday. That's the highest of any gas retailer in the nation, according to price tracker gasbuddy.com.

... Patrick DeHann, senior analyst at gasbuddy.com, said many tourists use the station before returning rental cars on the way to the airport, without realizing how expensive the gas is until it's too late.

... The city does not have the authority to regulate gas prices, so Orlando recently passed an ordinance requiring gas stations to post prices on signs that are clearly visible from the street.

1. How can anyone afford that?!?
Isn't that price gouging? It needs to be investigated, at least.

2. Investigate all you want. There is no law that says they have to
charge a certain price.
If you don't like the price, don't buy it. It's still way cheaper than Europe or Japan, or other places. And so pigs here waste it like crazy with these gas guzzling road hogs.
I paid that much last week; for premium. But beside Yosemite National Park. It was worth it.

3. If it costs that much here in NY, it's because it's ethanol free.
But we already hit $4-a-gallon regular gas last weekend. :(

7. Yikes! Where are you?
I'm in NE NY and it seems like it goes up a few cents every day. Where I got gas last week, it's gone up 10-cents-a-gallon. I check with GasBuddy to find the best prices, but there really aren't any to be had, these days. :(

It isn't worth driving all over the place to save a few cents on the gallon as you waste that much gasoline driving around seeking a lower price.

The only thing I have that helps a bit is a credit card that gives 5% off on gasoline. However, it only works at certain gas stations.

When I filled up the other day I had 3/4 of a tank and an extra $10.00 so I filled up because I know the price will be going up soon if it has not done so already.

I don't drive much luckily, that is all I can say. *sigh*

8. Yep.. that station charges those prices to milk the rental car renters
who have to return their cars with full tanks.

They are definitely vultures down at the airport.

13. Shorter drives too. England is a small country and people
live closer to work than here in the USA.

On top of this in the UK they have much better access to public transport so they don't have to drive so much.

14. Yeah, we have something like that in Wisconsin
Door County, which is a big tourist area of the state usually has gas prices that are 10-25 cents higher per gallon that the surrounding counties

17. Door County being a peninsula
kind of has a monoply on the situation. If you need gas while there you're kind of stuck.

18. I just paid $3.83 for regular in Orlando two hours ago at a 7-11
the city CAN regulate gas prices in an emergency to prevent gauging. This shouldn't be permitted either.
