TAYLOR — A 38-year-old Iowa woman took her own life Wednesday at Top Gun Shooting Sports,16725 Racho Road.

Police said the Army veteran had been released recently from a post traumatic stress disorder treatment program at the Battle Creek Veteran’s Affairs Medical Center.

Police said the woman went to the range at about 1 p.m., rented a semi-automatic handgun and did target practice for a while.

Surveillance video shows that she then stopped firing at the target and turned the gun on herself, shooting herself in the head.

3. She was in Bosnia...
I wonder what happened to her. This is so tragic and sad. I'm from
Iowa, and I guess it hits close to home--although a story like this is
tragic no matter what the victim's location.

I can't help but wonder what happened to her. PTSD from Bosnia. All of the
stories about female soldiers being raped is also a cause for concern.

Again, very tragic. PTSD is horrendous.

6. There is growing evidence that PTSD is more likely among
vets who experienced trauma in childhood and adolescence. Which broadens the question from just what happened to her during her military service to her entire life-story.

The VA mental health crisis line is 1-800-273-8255 then press 1. It has trained counselors on duty 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

4. The cycle of violence continues and enriches the few.
The violence of wars are wrecking the lives of our troops and their families. The violence is causing grief and despair in millions! of families in the Middle East. Imagine living in villages torn apart by wars. Imagine seeing the armed occupiers and hearing the helicopters loudly whirring overhead all the time. I learned -to a slight degree- what it must be like to live under military occupation in the weeks after Katrina when Humvees with armed US kid troops were rolling all about New Orleans. And the noises, the constant noises, of the helicopter blades overhead added to stress, not to mention the 'checkpoints'.

Such stress can drive the occupiers and the occupied insane. :(

8. Military service, more so in times of a defacto "economic" draft,
damages lives and families and increases violence and broekn individuals post their service.

I am all for a draft by lottery without exemptions nor croneyism in assignment.

10. Needless suffering
leads to tragedy. Not only was she expected to kill the "bad guys" over THERE. Chances are way too high she was raped by her male soldier cohorts.

Animals, girls and women bear the consequences of male folly.
