Anderson Cooper had worst ratings year ever
Anderson Cooper, who will be co-hosting CNN’s New Year’s Eve special with Kathy Griffin, has every reason to celebrate the passing of 2010. This year has brought his show’s worst ratings ever.

“Anderson Cooper 360” averaged 206,000 viewers in the coveted 25- to 54-year-old demographic, the traditional measure for attractiveness to advertisers, the lowest since the show started in 2003, according to Nielsen ratings assembled by TV by the Numbers.

Part of the trouble certainly comes from its following “Larry King Live,” which touched historic ratings lows this year during its final months. And the dip is also part of a broader downward slide in year-on-year-ratings across prime time cable news this year.

Fox News, MSNBC, CNN and HLN all saw a year-on-year drop in prime time ratings in total viewers and viewers in the demo this year from last year, with Fox faring the best with only a single-digit drop, and CNN faring the worst with a 36 percent drop in total primetime viewers and a 37 percent drop in the demo.

1. I do like Cooper ok, though... He may be the best thing left at CNN.
Although I admittedly rarely watch. Not having cable makes it easier to ignore those shows...;)

3. I've always liked Cooper when he gets fired up about something
Loved his takedown of that dipshit deputy AG in Michigan and a few similar things.

As you say, though, pity about the station he's on.

12. My son was watching AC...
after the earthquake in Haiti--I think that's when this happened--people were throwing rocks and he ran in to help a boy that had been hit. So my son (now 19) says to me "Anderson Cooper is the man, do you think any of those douche bag racists on Fox would have gone in like that".

How wrong is it that him saying that makes me proud?

4. I like AC 360, but he is on opposite the local news here.
I do not like Kathy Griffin and she is the reason I won't be watching CNN on New Year's Eve.

7. Actually

he's the product of two socially prominent families, Cooper as in Cooper-Hewitt Museum and if you thought the Vanderbilt's were old money, Peter Cooper the industrialist is even older money and an incredibly fascinating man and was utterly progressive in his beliefs. Yes he's a socialite but one of the most grounded ones out there, obviously he learned a lot of very good life lessons from a substantial family history.

6. You buried the lead, I think.
The real news here is that Americans are no longer paying attention to the 24-hr cable news.

That's a net positive. They may be uninformed, but at least the less 'misinformed'.

I don't really give 2 cents about the personalities who report the news anyway. I think we make far too much of them.

8. It's only because cable news is boring and repetitive
And CNN seriously sucks. Of course FOX is the absolute worst. Even MSNBC is a bit dull. Although I do like Rachel from time to time. :)

11. You hit it.
All one has to do is watch two hours of CNN to have all news there is, unless a crisis arises. CNN is numbingly repetitive. MSNBC is better, but has no Friday night, late night or weekend lineup that is worth shit. My suggestion for CNN and MSNBC is spend more money on news researchers, hire some fresh faced news readers, buff up your weekend news staffs, fill your Friday, late night and weekend offerings with content like first run, non repeated news shows or discussion shows and/or first run, high quality movies (with periodic news breaks). Avoid paying some comedy prima donna big bucks to fill late nights, better to put on good movies and DO NOT repeat broadcast the movies even once during many months, if at all.

9. I like Parker/Spitzer a great deal. Hope they don't mess with that. And Anderson
does a great job at breaking news. There just hasn't been much breaking news since Haiti.

13. Anderson is generally ok. I've been surprised to realized how rarely I actually flip by CNN over
the past couple of years. I just thought about it a few weeks ago (I don't know why it actually struck me to such a degree but I did realize that it is significantly less than in the past). I mean - it is EXTREMELY rare - not as rare as Faux News but, I swear, it isn't that far off.

I'm a total news junkie and I just don't bother with them almost ever. IMO that means they just truly suck on a monumental scale of being boring and irrelevant.
