Poll question: OMG!! The Royal Wedding!!!! CBS Poll find most Americans...
could give a rip about the royal wedding. Only 6% of Americans are following it closely. 68% are not following it closely or not following it at all.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/richard-adams-blog/2011/apr/23/royal-wedding-americans-poll-bored

I wonder how DUers line up?

1. I know I'm the lone voice...
But I find it fascinating.

It's a bit of history for me, this continuity of the family across the pond.

3. I wasn't a big Lady Di follower...but it does make me sad his mum isn't there.
I'd guess the British, having watched him grow up, kinda feel he is all of theirs. Probably similar to John Kennedy, Jr. here in the US.

Hi Peggy! (I haven't figured out the icons yet or I'd wave back)

8. Hi, Snoutport!
I'm sad about her not being there too.

Her death was a tragedy to me...

And I agree about John Kennedy, Jr. here as well. He was our native son...

The smilies aren't too hard! When you write your post, look just above where you write it, and you'll see (in BLUE letters) next to Message options, the underlined phrase Smilies lookup table. Click on that and the table appears. Then you just scroll down in that table, and you'll see the waving smiley for hi.

Here, I copied and pasted it for you:

No Emoticons? Check if you DO NOT wish to use emotion icons in your message
Add to Journal Check here if you want to add this post to your Journal

Hope that helps!

39. I hear you Peg but I have a hard time separating the sexism - males first in line
Kate will be hounded to give birth to a male, all that sexist bullshit right in my face. As I recall, princess Di even consented to a medical virginity exam. It's like Catholic traditions..I'm sure all that smoke and hubub is comforting but I never forget that women are 2nd class in that arena.

48. BUT...if you add up Victoria's and Elizabeth's reigns...
Both Elizabeths...it's somewhere around 167 of rule under a Female monarch. I bet if you threw in the Annes and Marys it would be close to 200 years. That means half of British rule since the 1550s has been by women. You'd think they would have done something to make the monarchy more female friendly. Hell, it was probably so many years of female ruling that helped Britain to rule the world.

65. No, that's not it.. It;s the image of that young boy losing his Mother in such a terrible way
We Moms like the whole "seeing our young ones get married"...

and when it's someone we always saw on tv as a baby, then young man, we "knew" him in a way..

Once he's married, until he & Kate have a baby, no one will follow them much..

It could be likened to how men/boys "follow" a young ballplayer in college, and throughout his career...buy his jerseys & bet on his team..

more information on the royal wedding than I care about. I think it's nice William is marrying someone he lived with for several years and that her recent ancestors were coal miners. As a herald in the SCA I was fascinated by the arms awarded to the Middleton family and the rituals that go along with the wedding, like the Queen formally approving William marrying 'our trusty and well-beloved" Kate - very cool. And given the awful dress that Diana wore some 30 years ago, it will be interesting to see what Kate wears. Otherwise, I'm not paying that much attention.

57. I'm an Anglophile, always have been, but I find that
I'm kind of neutral on this one. I'll probably watch some of it, but it won't be that big a deal to me. I do think they have a better shot than Charles and Diana and it's a different era. I believe they're really in love and their relationship is real; they've been together for years and have already been through a lot. Unlike William's parents, who really only married because it was expected of them and there was that whole "must marry a virgin" crap. Charles sure as shit wasn't in love with her, he wanted Camilla and would have married her before she got tired of waiting and married Andrew Parker Bowles if his mother had approved of it, which she didn't (she still doesn't like Camilla, for which I can't blame her at all-the woman's a hateful greedy bitch).

It's hard to believe that it's just shy of thirty years since Charles and Diana's wedding. I remember that summer and that wedding vividly; I was sixteen and staying a couple of nights with a friend whose mother was obsessed with the wedding and woke us up in the middle of the night to watch it live; she practically forced her daughter out of bed and into the living room (she had a British boyfriend at the time). We did spend hours watching it with her mother. It's very bittersweet for me right now because that friend happened to die of a massive heart attack, in front of her three children, this past Christmas Eve Day. Still hard to believe.
