Fla Gov Rick Scott teams up with Insurance lobbyists to raise homeowner rates 25-100%
http://www.heraldtribune.com/article/20110425/ARTICLE/304259999/2081/NEWS?Title=Documents-show-a-Scott-push-to-shutter-Citizens

Gov. Rick Scott has secretly pushed to kill Citizens Property Insurance before his first term ends, a goal that alarmed even representatives of private insurance companies seeking to remove Citizens as a competitor, the Herald-Tribune has learned.

In a February meeting with the industry lobbyists writing bills for the upcoming legislative session, documents show that Governor Scott's top staff sought to force the 1.3 million property owners who now have a policy from the state-run carrier back into the private market, "phasing out Citizens completely."

The team writing the Citizens Property Insurance bill included regulators, as well as input from two lawmakers, but consisted mainly of lobbyists.

State Farm, the largest private carrier in the state and second-largest overall, had three people at the table — two lobbyists and a company executive.

Not only did they privately craft language to remove Citizens as a competitor, they also added provisions that would financially benefit their own clients.

1. Enjoy it, T-baggers...
Too bad for the ones who didn't vote for him, I feel sorry for them. People are going to be driven out of their homes more surely than any property tax increase would do.

2. Free markets! No gov't control of markets! THAT'S what they stand for!

I TRY not to be a hypocrite (sometimes "life" makes it unavoidable).

I don't like it when the Dems let corporations use gov't to control markets for their benefit (Banks, Pharmcos, Comcast, etc.)

But Republicans are fucking hypocrites as they're not going to make MENTION of this action which they would oppose if Scott had a (D) after his name.

4. Is anyone surprised?
Insurers hate paying claims the most of all.. They like the part where you send them premium money, but they don;t want to pay claims. The only way they can play the insurance game in a hurricane state is to charge outrageous rates for everyone, so that when they have to pay claims, they still have mega-money..

remember when many of them "left the state" completely? I guess they decided that if the gouged enough people, they could afford to come back..and of course baldy decided to help them out with their gouge-everyone plan.

that will go over well in communities where every other house is a foreclosure:(

5. Gas prices $5 a gallon, food prices thru the roof.. this is Corporate America at work...
Corporate America along with their paid-for Congress Critters. Of course wages NEVER go up and any spending that benefits taxpayers will be slashed.

Sorry to complain... but it is unimaginable how the mainstream press can ignore this blatant, in-your-face fraud any longer?
