US lawmakers seek to ban chimp experiments http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=439x886326http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20110413/sc_afp/uspoliticssciencemedicineanimals_20110413230705"Scientists worldwide have halted chimpanzee experiments, because these intelligent creatures suffer immensely and are poor models for researching human diseases," said Elizabeth Kucinich, director of government affairs for the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medecine.
Her research ethics group has campaigned for the bills now being sponsored in the Senate and the House of Representatives.

2. I don't see a lot of real need for chimp |

research. At the very base of it is the fact that one of these animals really could rip your arm off and beat you to death with the wet end. That and the fact that the cost of maintaining even a very small chimp base is outrageous really puts off most research organizations.
The results you get would have to be some fascinating stuff that you could never get anywhere else and I just don't see that happening.
There are some people that still believe that the near genetic links between chimps and humans make them viable research candidates but most institutions won't move from the small monkeys they now have to use for FDA testing.

8. At least the chimps wear diapers. The Republicans toss their sh#t around and pretend it is "fact". |
