As gas prices rise, so does bus ridership
By John Lantigua and Ana M. Valdes, The Palm Beach Post
5:52 p.m. EDT, April 24, 2011

Francisco Burgos stands patiently next to his bicycle near a bus stop at the West Palm Beach train station. Beyond him, on Tamarind Avenue, cars zip by as rush hour begins.

Until this month, Burgos, 45, could be found behind the wheel of his gas-guzzling Ford Explorer at that time of day, returning home to Haverhill from his mechanic's job in Riviera Beach.

Not anymore.

Asked why, he rolls his eyes as if the question is absurd. ............(more)

1. And if we had High Speed Rail, so would travel on trains
Imagine 20,000+ vehicles traveling between Cleveland Ohio and Chicago Illinois being cut by nearly half every day.

Many of those 20,000 vehicles per day have one person, the driver. If they could take a train and arrive as fast and not have to pay these gas prices, they would be riding. 20,000 drivers, 20,000 motors replaced by 4 or 5 has to be more efficient.

But the GOP knows what is better for us, killing HSR projects.
