Poll question: Do Progressives pick the wrong fights? |
|
The view from this member is mixed. I love progressives passion. I question the logic put into whether to fight or seek other paths. I question the desire to fight to the last standing in the face of setbacks. I love the reasons why progressives fight, I share many of their reasons, even as I chose other paths to the same goals. I am often disappointed by progressives view that their way is the only way, sounds rightwingish.

1. Progressives are a broad group of people. It depends on the person, the issue, and their stance. |

5. The yes on #3 is a yes on #2 too. |

We are so different that we fight for different causes that are right.
Like I have said before ask any conservative that flirted with the left and they will tell you the same story.
"Oh they all had to listen to EVERYBODY!!! And give EVERYBODY'S OPINION equal weight. I tell ya it took hours to get a meeting done. I just couldn't stand it."
That is why they left. They needed one person to tell them what to do. That is why they are authoritarians. They like it that way. We do not. :P

There is a point on that, however most progressives do not say their way is the only way. They ask to learn the other way, and the other side has nothing.
If there is another way explain it.
They can't even explain why they have not corrected beer and travel money issue, and many experiences. How are they going to fix the world. Accept to say they don't care, and that is really all they need to say in their TV also then. Not even judging them for not caring, but they need to know it, then everyone else needs to know it if that does not correct the issue. Although that's true at some level for all people.
Note the opposites would say the same about me, my point is that is not an issue I caused, and it should be corrected for reasons of justice and compassion. If they could show I caused it they would have. They can't even blame it as a local issue anymore since that concept was dispelled also.
They actually think things are being removed. They are being empowered. Funny thing, they have to stick to their world view, 'burning them up' is not getting rid of them. It is sending them a direction.

8. Hmm, if you are talking on DU, far more fights are "picked" by others against progressives |
|
Edited on Fri Dec-31-10 12:36 AM by Go2Peace
I see "progressives" expressing frustration and arguing over policy a lot here, but as far as people pushing and fighting, it is far more often others. Like this post, which is essentially trying to pick a fight and "call out" progressives here as sounding "rightwingish"?
Progressives are upset at policies and officials, the "other side" here gets more personal and tries to intimidate people personally. Been that way since Obama was elected.

9. Define 'progressives'. |
|
I am a progressive, and I readily acknowledge that my way is not the only way. It is, however, the only rational, sensible way. Not all arguments are equally weighted, and an argument from the insane right should never be considered simply an alternative to rational actions.

nosepickers pick the wrong noses and sometimes women pick the wrong men (and vice versa and vice vice and versa versa) and sometimes miners pick the wrong mines, but progressives don't pick fights. The fights come to progressives.

12. NO! Progressives study issues. Experience policies and the results. |
|
We think and analyse. Not in a vacuum. We know how policies affect the lives of real people. We look at the BIG PICTURE for the long run.

14. "Health Insurance Reform" was the right fight at the right time. |
|
The House Progressive Caucus rolled over and voted for a bill without a public option, despite having vowed not to vote for the bill unless it contained a "robust" public option.
In my experience, these days Progressives don't fight ... at all.

16. moderates are the extreme problem in the democratic party. |
|
first: they have no ideas but the ones republicans give them. -- mmm except Free Trade perhaps -- which was a liberal idea from the 60s.
second: they negotiate only with republicans -- because that's who they are the most comfortable with.
third: moderates never met a 'compromise' with republicans they didn't adore.
