Lawrence O'Donnell DESTROYS Rush Limbaugh |
|
In response to Limbaugh's outrageous comment, "what would Jesus take?" O'Donnell said, "Everything", citing Matthew 19:21-25.
"This is the one line Christians will not let you cross, Rush--nor will I."--Lawrence O'Donnell

5. This should send Rush back to his studio until next year's election |
|
Limbaugh is at his best arguing against inanimate objects, such as pieces of videotape, audio recordings or photographs. When his adversary has a mike of his own and Rush can't just "lose" the call, Rush isn't so good.

34. But can you sumamrize the context for us deafies? |
|
I would think that the idea of Jesus "taking" everything means that the banksters are doing the godly thing by ripping off everyone for as much as they can get. What would Jesus take? Everything, until you have nothing left for him to steal!
See how the reference makes no sense to us who cannot listen to the video? Please think of your deaf DU buddies and let us into the conversation!

39. Limbaugh asks, "Taxes and budget cuts? What would Jesus do?" |
|
Edited on Tue Apr-26-11 02:29 PM by crickets
"No, the question is, what would Jesus take? That's the question people need to ask in order to put this in perspective. Of course, the answer is nothing."
This after a long diatribe about Dems using religion at their convenience, when it serves their purposes, that using Jesus as a patron saint of liberalism is "what he's good for." Then he starts ranting that Jesus knew "who to punish" (the rich) and that he championed the downtrodden and slothful (?!) blahblah -- it was tough to sit through all of the bilious logical disconnect.
O'Donnell's answer is that Jesus would take everything.
He quotes Mark 10:17, 10:21, 10:22-23 & 10:25, Mark 12:43-44, Matthew 19:21-25, Matthew 25:31-46, Luke 14:33 and using these passages calmly takes Limbaugh apart. It was beautifully done. Hopefully there will be a full transcript at a later date.

43. The word "taking" does not fit perfectly into the analysis. Laurance used |
|
it because Rush used it but the words Jesus said were about giving up all your things because things are not what get you into Heaven, (one of those scriptures). So Rush said Jesus would take nothing and Laurence said He would take everything.
I don't like it when I am forced to look stuff up also. And I never even thought about what it would be like on the internet if you were deaf. Sorry about that.

20. It was fantastic! Lawrence used Limbaughs phony religious beliefs and literally bashed his face in |
|
with the "truth" of Rush's alleged knowledge of what Jesus would "take". It was so good in fact, I watched it twice, and then sent it to about 10 friends who all commented about what a complete fraud Rush is, as if we didn't know that already. Give up everything for your alleged religious beliefs Rush, or shut your hateful, fat trap, once and for all. Thank you Mr. O'Donnell for putting Limbaugh back on his fat heels. Lou

Very simple and truthful. But I have a feeling, many of the people who listen to rush are going to think now, well, rush said that Jesus wouldn't take anything from the rich folks... and I think they will not look at where the stories come from.

And let God sort them out... we aren't supposed to judge anyway. Jesus didn't say check to be sure those people are really hungry before you start passing out fishes and loaves... or you better listen for belly grumbles to be sure. There is so little faith in the world. For all you know that slacker who drank from the milk of your human kindness could be pulled over to the good guy side because you were so giving... and you would have passed him up, and passed up an opportunity to let your life be a witness to the Lord's love. There is so little faith left in the world today, and that is truly disturbing.
This is what I said to my UnTrue (TM) Fundy Christian cousin when she told me that there are too many slackers sucking us dry.

Biblical illiteracy in the pews is pretty widespread in the U.S. and according to many reports and studies getting worse. Perhaps not surprisingly, the last report I read showed atheists scoring the highest in biblical literacy. If anyone wants links I'll have to get back with you because I usually get written studies sent to me. But I imagine my claims aren't all that outrageous and a quick google of biblical literacy will hand you everything you'd want to back it up. The studies I have seen have been sponsored by both faith groups and academic institutions with fairly similar results. A few of the more conservative clergy in my inter-faith group are not shy at all about admitting they prefer their congregants biblically illiterate. Needless to say, their denominations routinely rank at the bottom.
