Traffic jams and fights in Ottawa as stations sell gas at bargain price of US$4.36/gal

Two gas stations in Ottawa owned by a father and son gave hundreds of excited motorists an incredible Easter deal on Monday, offering fuel at market price — a bargain $1.10 per litre.

At a time when rival pumps in the capital region are jacking up costs for petrol — with the website Ottawagasprices.com reporting prices as high as $1.40 per litre on Monday — Eddie Jeha and his son, George, opted to show drivers how much they're being gouged by oil companies.

The Jehas, who own the Stinson and Seaway gas stations, decided that for two hours on Monday between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., they would sell regular unleaded fuel for just $1.10 per litre, then see what happens.

What happened Monday was bumper-to-bumper traffic at both stations. Many of the anxious drivers lined up for longer than an hour to fill their tanks.
