Two Countries Separated by a Common Language

What's your favorite British colloquialism? ..... Here are a few of mine, with translation:

Row - argument, dispute

Slapper - tramp

Pissed - really drunk

Bollocks - B.S., and many other meanings

Cheeky - state of being a smart ass

Tosser - idiot, though I think the direct translation is masturbator

Nutter - crazy person

Gobshite - asshole (person)

"I'm knackered. - "I'm tired."

On your jack - Solo; by yourself

1. I rather like "I'll come 'round and knock you up"
As in "knock on your door." Also, the frequent use of "cheers" (which they pronounce "chizz") to mean just about anything from "well done" to "OK, fine" to "here's to you."

3. I met a Brit lass in Spain once.

She told me during the course of a mundane conversation that someone knocked her up. There was a moment
of silence followed by several moments of awkwardness on my part before I eventually got her drift.

7. I met a Spanish lass in Britain once.
And, tho it wasn't with her, I had that awkward moment as well, when I first heard about getting "knocked up."

4. Two of 'em: "fagged" as in exhausted
and indefatigable (which, to be fair, might be used in the US, too, but the Brits seems to love this word and I love the way it's pronounced on BBC).

Taking the piss = teasing.

Pissed = drunk.

10. Keep your pecker up...
which translates to: Don't worry, be happy, etc.

Knickers: underpants

I also like "Cheeky"

Another thing besides the language I'm fond of is their sense of humor.

Droll and understated. It just makes me howl...

17. I've got a couple
"lost the plot" = gone insane

"chav" noun used to describe urban delinquent youths. Or NED as they are called in Scotland. Stands for Non educated delinquent.

"bent" or "bender" a gay person

"slag" a slutty person

"skint" being poor or broke.

The rest that come to mind are rude descriptions of genitals...and I don't think DU would appreciate that.
