The Medicare vouchers thing--it's not really going to happen, right?
Up until now I've just been assuming that this was just another example of the typical right-wing MO: propose something so outrageous that later on, your slightly-less-outrageous "compromise" proposal seems sane in comparison. But so many people are discussing this as if it might seriously happen.

They can't REALLY do that, can they?

1. I doubt it could even get 50 votes in the Senate, much less 60
Susan Collins is already said she is a No.

2. No
There's zero (that's a big goose egg) chance of it passing.

This is Republican mental masturbation.

3. It all depends on how many Democrats in Senate are willing
to vote with the Republicans on this.

6. The plan is DOA
I would actually love to see Reid hold a vote on this. Betcha we see Repubs scramble to prevent a vote from ever happening. This plan is already turning toxic for the GOP. I would think that the last thing most of them would want hanging around their necks in 2012 is this *plan*. :puke:

20. See, that's what I'm hoping.
I just hope that whatever "compromise" they reach to avoid this doesn't hurt as almost as badly.

5. It would be political suicide
I think they love their jobs and money way too much to do that.

8. Who would have thought Gov. Walker would be dismantling unions?
They are going to try HARD to end both Medicare and Social Security. This has been a dream of the party ever since Ronald Reagan.

We have to take it very very seriously.

21. Ronald Reagan was dismantling unions 30 years ago
Gov. Walker's actions really aren't that big a surprise.

Dismantling Medicare, in contrast, is something that wasn't really on anybody's radars until Ryan's plan. If political discourse continues to trend towards stupid over the next decade this may emerge as a threat, but there's no chance the current government will pass a Medicare voucher plan, and any claim to the contrary only distorts the assessment of our political environment thereby undermining our ability to tackle the current set of threats.

16. I'd prefer not using the "school choice" term of "vouchers;" it has a positive ring to too many.

10. Right now, no
if they regain the Senate in 2012. All bets are off.
I would not think that they would renew the devastating Bush Tax cuts, with Obama's approval.
I did not think they would allow the Financial institution to behave exactly they same way that brought about the crisis, but they did.
I did not think they could turn the wreckage that Wall Street left on the State budgets and pension funds on the backs of teachers and workers, but they did.
Don't count on it not happening.

14. There's no way in hell a repuke will win the WH in 2012.
And after this bullshit with Medicare, SS and Medicaid, I wouldn't be surprised if the Teabaggers aren't kicked to the curb either. He could very easily take back the House and gain seats in the Senate. This one the dumbest fucking move the Repukes could have made.

15. All They Have to do is Keep Raising Gas Prices and they Win
Edited on Tue Apr-26-11 07:30 PM by AndyTiedye
It's that simple.

And if they win, we lose Medicare, Social Security, whatever is left of the safety net,
Roe v. Wade, Griswold v. Connecticut, and everything else.

24. Repukes = BIG OIL. I think people are finally catching on to what the
repuke party is all about: Union busting, destroy Medicare, destroy SS, destroy medicaid, destroy public education and have your friends at BP, Exxon, Shell and Chevron make the Dems look bad by raising the prices. EVERYONE knows the repukes are in the pocket of big oil and they line each others pockets. Big Oil is just thanking the repukes for their HUGE tax breaks and HUGE refunds by raising prices for them.

Their game is over. They've shown their true colors.

the only thing standing in it way is the slim majority of Democrats in the Senate.
