To Franklin Graham: Silence is golden

Birther, other remarks were irresponsible, false rhetoric.

Posted: Tuesday, Apr. 26, 2011

Evangelist Franklin Graham surely must have forgotten the sage advice from a verse in Proverbs, about a fool holding his tongue and "being counted wise."

Otherwise he wouldn't have spouted the nonsense he did Sunday to ABC's Christiane Amanpour, giving huckster real-estate mogul and television personality Donald Trump a thumbs-up as a presidential candidate and repeating the already many times disproven silliness that President Barack Obama wasn't born in the United States.

.................

(Obama) posted a copy of his certification of birth from Hawaii on his website when he ran for president in 2008 when the issue first came up. That is the birth certificate supplied to everyone born in Hawaii. Not only that, Hawaiian officials allowed the nonpartisan news website FactCheck.org to see the actual physical birth certificate in Hawaii. The organization saw the raised seal and signature and concluded it was real.

Moreover, one exasperated Hawaii official after another has confirmed the document's authenticity. Reporters and others have found newspaper birth announcement for Obama published in Honolulu papers in 1961, the year of his birth. Doubts about Obama's place of birth are simply absurd.

2. This will never satisfy the teabaggers because
Edited on Tue Apr-26-11 06:37 PM by pnwmom
they always have another answer.

For example there is a theory widely held among them that, in decades past, the Hawaiian officials would issue a COLB to practically anyone who asked for one -- even if that birth occurred to an American mother but not on American soil. So they keep insisting on the "long form" in order to prove Obama wasn't born in a hospital in Honolulu -- or even in the U.S. at all.

The fact that his COLB clearly states that he was born in HONOLULU means nothing to them. If they ever did see a long form proving this, then they'd be back to asserting that he lost his citizenship when he spent his primary years in Indonesia. There will always be something with these people. It's not possible to satisfy them with facts and logic.

5. Graham was hideous.
But he sounded just exactly like the birthers I bump into occasionally. And they do come up with some of the weirdest shifts of that which passes for logic in their universe. How do you possibly argue with a birther who says, "It isn't racist because Obama is half white"?

gaaaahhhh.....

6. Then it's half-racist.
But boy howdy, do I agree with you. There is no reasoning with them.

It is frustrating, infuriating, often sad, sometimes humorous and always futile to attempt to reason with a teabagger. I have taken to simply going along, and ramping up the hysteria in an effort to show them how absurd their POV is - outcrazying the crazy. You just have to be willing to say the most bizarre things imaginable.
