Bravo Vermont
Congrats on your single payer health care...healthcare is a right not a privilege.

I'm betting lots of sensible people move to Vermont.
:applause:

Gov Shumlin is on Rachel.

5. I'd like to return but ohhh those winters
... it works if you can pair it with a South American / Caribbean escape from Thanksgiving until early May...;)

Though Christmas is pretty there and you can cut your own tree!

21. After two weeks snowed in in February in VT I got a knock on the door
Desperate neighbor, alkie, hardly knew him, wanted to play cards, just desperate to do something, anything... it gets like that! The positive is that people really do help each other.

3. Good going Vermont...
Unfortunately when it is shown how good it works - it won't mean a thing for other states.

17. Looks good to me
http://blogs.forbes.com/erikkain/2011/04/26/vermont-moves-toward-single-payer-healthcare/
<snip>
One more reason to move to Vermont:

In a move that will no doubt cheer conservative states-rights advocates (OK, I’m kidding), the Vermont Senate passed a bill yesterday that will move the state toward a single-payer health system. Since it had already been passed by the state House, the two bills just need to be reconciled, and then Vermont will be on its way to creating its socialist health-care dystopia. What, you thought all the state-level action on health care was about suing to stop Obamacare?

The system could end up looking something like what they have in France: a basic public plan that covers everyone, with most people buying supplemental private insurance on top of that. The most important change may be that Green Mountain Care could cut the link between employment and health care.

This is a good example of the ways states can innovate to make healthcare more accessible and keep costs under control. Hawaii is another state with single-payer that was exempted from the ACA from the get-go. Oregon is making similar moves.

23. That is good to hear! Last I read, the Republicans were trying to water it down with
insurance industry amendments.

19. If I ever make my way back to the U.S.
(something I can't do right now because I don't meet the financial requirement to sponsor an immigrant spouse and I married a furriner) I'll be heading to Vermont.
