WTF? Why play into this foolishness? What should he release next?

Actually, if he was going to do this, Obama should have waited until Trump got the nomination to release his birth certificate and grades.

2. President Obama said he released it to move political discussion forwards.
He said it was a distraction.

15. It is indeed a distraction
But we've already seen that the birfers are ready to push all in on the craziness. And because popular media outlets can't resist the lure of the it all, Fox and NBC will be compelled to cover every last development in near pornographic detail. I predict this will not move the political discussion forward, it will not silence the nutballs, and will produce another round of intense navel-gazing.

That being said, I have no idea what the president could have or should have done, but this will not achieve the ends stated.

3. That's what would have happened if Edwards had gotten the nomination.
Or, maybe, they would just blackmail him.

That's what I thought, release it during the election process and take the wind out of their sails. But I don't understand much of anything that this President does. I think maybe it's becasue he has the progressive votes locked up and he is trying to appeal to the right wingers, who'll never like him.

6. actually, it's a great way to deflect coverage about voter rage, don't you think?
After all, both parties get hammered when voters start talking about the deficit dosey-do going on in Washington.

So let's drop some useless information for the trained poodles in the MSM to start chewing up and pissing on.

Mission accomplished. Angry voters are *disappeared*.

17. you're the one calling it a conspiracy -- did you see that word ANYWHERE in the post?
Political expediency -- and please don't tell me that that is not practiced by BOTH sides. Unless of course, you wear blinkers

8. More 3-D Chess...
There's the many states with these stupid birfer bills that now will look even sillier. (Personally I'd like to see several of these pass just to mess up the rushpublicans who now will have to jump through hoops to prove they're who they are)

Next, it's the corporate media's bright shiny toy. Playing birfer is easier to do than trying to detail how unions are being busted or medicare is being gutted or the economy continues to sputter. That requires real journalism...it's far easier to get 4 talking heads and let them throw pooh at each other. This gives them a new shiny toy to play with.

Then there's the wedge this silly non-issue has formed within the GOTB. The racists will never admit to this President's legitimacy and the party elite know this thing is losing independents and the few moderates that remain. Their presidential primary circus is being drastically affected by this and the Trump freak show...the bosses in the beltway are losing control of this runaway clown car.

Kudos to the President for making the rushpublicans squirm...and look foolish once again. It's called playing "hardball"...

9. That's what I've been saying -
this will just make a large portion of the crazies look for more viable candidates - and none of them will be Obama. As long as Trump used this as an issue, it helped split the opposition.

13. Why not?
It's as good a way as any to say kiss my ass. It won't stop anybody who really believes in this shit, because they're half crazy in the first place but it will marginalize the 'topic' more appropriately. There is an incredible amount of people seeking the release of the long form. I'm glad he did it, now they can talk about how the birth certificate is a fake, and Obama is a Muslim or the real meaning of his middle name-- you know important issues to repukes and teabaggers and whatever is squished in between, and sound like even bigger idiots.
