Furious Obama demanded detailed birth certificate after continued questions

By Anne E. Kornblut, Updated: Wednesday, April 27, 11:45 AM

After his major address on the deficit two weeks ago, President Obama sat down for an interview with ABC News anchor George Stephanopoulos expecting a conversation about fiscal issues.

Instead, Obama faced repeated questions about the controversy surrounding his place of birth, which had escalated in recent weeks as potential Republican candidate Donald Trump made it the centerpiece of his platform. Although the questions were couched as coming from the political fringe, the interview added to the growing sense within the White House that the mainstream media was perpetrating a dangerous myth.

Obama, furious, demanded that his staff finally get a copy of his long-form birth certificate from Hawaii to set the matter aside for good, according to senior administration officials.

“He did that despite the fact that it probably was…probably in his long-term political interests to allow this birther debate to dominate discussion in the Republican Party for months to come,” White House communications director Dan Pfeiffer said. “But he thought even though it might have been good politics, he thought it was bad for the country. And so he asked counsel to look into this.”

6. Remember the last Hillary-Obama debate in April 2008?
Stuffy Stuffalupugas couldn't shut up about Reverend Wright, flag lapel pins and what Hillary did or did not see at some airport in Yugoslavia 13 years ago.

4. Look at his statement to the press.
He says that he couldn't get the press to break into scheduled programming to hear him talk about war, national security or the budget, but could when he talked about his birth certificate.

7. If these same idiots don't believe the scientists re. global warming, will they believe a birth c.?
It's a pathetic joke. Especially in light of how we didn't harp over and over about Bush being AWOL, and a dozen other far greater issues.

Waste of time.

11. Obama wasn't talking to the birthers He was talking to the MSM who ought to know better
They have known from the beginning the birther crap was nonsense, but they just strung it along anyway, out of boredom or mischief or whatever. Now they have to think twice before perpetuating that lie again.

15. I was wondering if the Fairness Doctrine was on his mind.
I know. But ultimately it's all of the same people perpetuating the nonsense. Although they'd be nothing without the press.

19. No, but you know what, I have read comments from people who say they are
repubs and are fed up with the craziness.

There are some people who will reconsider their party.

I believe the only way the President can lose the next election is if democrats abandon him.

is his "Monica Lewinski". It has taken on a life of its own, isn't really important and gives the fringe right something to hold onto..............

and though Clinton did do 'something' with that woman (paraphrasing! :) ) it wasn't discovered until the Repub machine had spent lots of time and money looking for something, anything, to discredit and disgrace Clinton, ie: Travelgate, Vince Foster etc ............
But yes, in this case the birth cert thing is an entire fabrication on the part of the right to smear the man elected by the majority to the office of the President. It's disgraceful

12. It would have been bad for the country to allow this BS to continue...
We have important things to think about. I'm glad he did this, though I seriously doubt he was "furious." I've yet to see him anywhere near furious. His lack of reactionary behavior is one of my favorite things about him; I would have noticed any deviation.

Now when the RW try to talk around this, they will show themselves in a very blatant and vile manner just how racist they really are.

George S. needs to STFU. His actions are showing how right Obama was to go to this length. You can't be a journalist and carry so much putrid water for liars.

14. i would notice, too, but
don't forget Robert Gibbs' response to *does the pres. ever get angry* question -- he looked far away for a second and said something like *ohhh, yeah ..." his face didn't lie either. obama is so intense, i'll bet you any amount of $ that he BLOWS A GASKET at times -- the kind of anger you don't want to be around.

but i think this will help the pres get some work done. I don't think it's necessarily been the RW has been pulling this shit, but the MSM pulling this shit. can barely watch anything on there anymore. rachel/keith/stewart/colbert have been my go-tos for a while now ...

I don't really think you can ignore those assholes or treat the wellbeing of the country as somehow disconnected from destroying them.

13. the president now has to DEMAND the birth certificates of any official requiring citizenship status
Really! Enough already! If members of Congress continue to fuss about this non-issue, THEY NEED TO PROVE US CITIZENSHIP TOO! Long birth certificates, short birth certificates, newspaper announcements, sworn oath of mother that she gave birth to that person on US soil, similar sworn oath of father if he was in the delivery room ... and then it has to be triple-checked for signs of forgery.

DO IT!

And will their documents stand up to the same scrutiny?
