Trends....the fall of empire
On Trends and End of Empire.

Empires have a birht, a growth, a point of maturity and a decline. Like people, they have a natural lifespan. The US is now on the downward spiral of the Empire. Trends pointing to this point started in the 1980s, in my opinion with the beginings of Reaganomics. It is ironic as this was supposed to keep us going for ever, as a power house. Instead, removing trade barriers has transferred both wealth and production capacity to places... EAST.

So the other day the IMF released a little piece of data. The Chinese Economy is to surpass the US as the largest economy in 2016. Read this again my dear reader. CHINA IS TO SURPASS THE US BY 2016. THe largest consumer economy, the largest middle class economy, will be China. This is a critical trend point. The US is no longer an Empire, and the only thing we have left is for this to become official. Perhaps with the debt ceiling it will become quite official, and the Republicans will bring forth the greaest crisis since the Great Depression.

But... that was 2008... the US has never defaulted on her debt, and talks around the edges are now increasing on making the US Dollar no longer a reserve currency. If the debt ceiling is not raised and we default on our debt it will be the not so soft of a landing on the end of our status as a reserve currency. So this is important and you too should pay attention to this. It will determine how hard your standard of living drops, and how fast.

The second marker were two US military officers telling us that it is time to take a good look at our priorities. But why would a Captain and an Colonel care? Because privatized lousy schools lead to lousy recruits, and that means a national security threat, a real one. So it is time to wake up, we are no longer an Empire and it is time to pay attention to OUR DOMESTIC issues, and yes... raise a few tarriffs and rebuild our industrial capacity. As a former Empire we need to surrive in this new world, where CHINA is the next upstart.

6. Imperialists don't like steam engines.
All the hoo-hawing by both parties is just smoke and mirrors for our ever present imperial rule. Has our empire grown our shrank in the last 150 years?
