2. Might have been black ice. |

That stuff sneaks up on you and will bite you no matter how much winter driving experience you have.

and have had at least two near misses due to black ice.
And I'm a very good driver.
My wife spun out once on her way home from my office. Big wind caught her van and spun her off the road into a drift. Only going about thirty but the tires were frozen so hard that the driver's side tires just shattered when they hit the right side curb when she went off the road backwards.
Scarey.

12. Most likely black ice. Here in MN we were getting rain and the temp |
|
was 32 degrees. That combination says black ice and it is entirely possible that ND was getting the same thing.

Learned to drive in OH and then spent 20+ years driving in CT.
Though DC drivers are pretty bad when it comes to snow.

to discuss when they get together and talk about the route and the weather on the way over.
"Jamestown College student Juan Hurtado said he didn’t leave his vehicle until the minute law enforcement came to his rescue. Hurtado had been waiting more than eight hours before rescue crews found him still in his friend’s car that had slid into the ditch when he tried to avoid the other crashes."
