Garridos plead guilty to Jaycee Dugard kidnapping
Demian Bulwa, Chronicle Staff Writer

Thursday, April 28, 2011

PLACERVILLE, EL DORADO COUNTY -- Phillip and Nancy Garrido each pleaded guilty today to the kidnap and sexual enslavement of Jaycee Dugard, avoiding a trial that would have forced Dugard to take the witness stand and recollect the 18 years she was held in a backyard hideaway outside Antioch.

A trial had been scheduled for August in Placerville (El Dorado County). Phillip Garrido, 59, pleaded guilty to a raft of charges that carry a sentence of 431 years to life in prison. His wife, 55, faces 36 years to life for rape and kidnapping.

Sentencing was scheduled for June 2.

"We're one step closer to finality on it, and a pretty good step, I think," District Attorney Vern Pierson said outside court in Placerville. "All in all, we're very satisfied with the outcome."

1. I wonder if they think keeping her prisoner for 18 years was worth life in prison.

2. Let me see . . .
Nope, I can't bring myself to care what these people think, I'm sorry to say. A sentence of 431 years seems a little light, but there's only so much the justice system can do.

4. I want to see them both die in prison. No humane release for these two,
because of how they imprisoned Jaycee.
