Lara Logan: "They raped me with their hands"
CBS correspondent Lara Logan is speaking out for the first time since her brutal sexual assault in Egypt.

Logan was attacked by a mob near Cairo's Tahrir Square on Feb. 11, the day that President Hosni Mubarak was finally driven from power. At the time, CBS News issued a statement saying that she "suffered a brutal and sustained sexual assault and beating before being saved by a group of women and an estimated 20 Egyptian soldiers." Her attack reverberated around the world and highlighted the dangers of sexual assault and harassment that women face while reporting.

In interviews with "60 Minutes" and the New York Times which were released on Thursday, Logan described what happened when the mob surrounded her.

<snip>

"For an extended period of time, they raped me with their hands," she said. "My clothes were torn to pieces...what really struck me was how merciless they were. They really enjoyed my pain and suffering. It incited them to more violence."

7. when this first happened there were a lot of people here saying
she was lucky she hadn't been raped. I was pretty sure then and Ms. Logan confirms it in this interview, that she was raped. absolutely horrifying. I can't even imagine.

15. There's a very real voyeuristic element here that demands
WAYYYY too much detail about sexualized violence.

8. It makes me ashamed to be the same gender as these assholes.

Even if they are subhuman.

Ms Logan must be a very strong person to be able to talk in a public forum about her ordeal.

this kind of behavior suggests that Democracy in Egypt will be much different than western democracy.

12. especially as when the women later protested for their rights too, they were jeered by the very men
fighting for their freedoms and picked up and went thru "virgin" checks and strip searches for jeers and laughter and pictures.

ya

i dont think it is going to be like other countries. tunisia though, sounding good. women have to be put in govt too. they are including their women from what i hear

18. I don't think too many states use the charge of rape at all
Mostly sex crimes are charged as sexual assault in varying degrees of severity.

16. Fucking A, I can already hear oxyrush opining on this
"She was asking for it"

"Your hand is not a penis, therefore it is not rape"

"Goes to show women can't take it"

IN all likelihood, Rush probably wished he could have been part of the mob, maniacally laughing has he tried to kill her

He hates women

17. TERRIBLE to have to go thru that
I'm so glad the women helped her but it's so very sad that the men who fought to overthrow their dictator would do this to a woman.
