A national organization of conservative state legislators that liberals blame for assaults on public employees' union in Ohio and elsewhere is meeting in Cincinnati this week - and their conference will draw a Fountain Square protest Friday.

Several hundred members of the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) are holding their "spring task force" meeting Thursday and Friday at the Hilton Netherland Plaza hotel downtown.

ProtestALEC, a coalition of union, student and human rights organizations plans teach-ins Friday at locations in Over-the-Rhine and downtown Friday on what they call ALEC's "threat not only to progressive policies and public services, but to the Democratic process in this country."

A rally will be held on fountain Square to protest ALEC from noon to 2 p.m. Friday.

Much more on ALEC, including some replies about the plans for this protest, in the long compilation topic on the American Legislative Exchange Council.
