Repo Games.
I just saw a terrible show on TV called "Repo Games." The basic premise is Repo Men go to people's houses and Repo vehicles. But before they repo the vehicle, they give the people whose car is about to get repoed a chance to keep it. Basically they answer trivia questions. If they answer enough questions correctly, they keep their car, if not their car gets repoed.

Is this entertaining? Why? This is nothing more than the media mocking poor people while millions of people watch it. No wonder the corporations are able to fraud so many people. People find the misery of the poor to be entertaining, and if the media instead of exploiting the poor for ratings, decided to tell the truth about the class war, how would people get their sick pleasure from watching poor people lose their possessions?

At one point, shows like Deathrace 2000 and The Running Man looked ridiculous. Is that still the case?

1. I believe those guys have already been attacked once
and I'm sure it will happen again. I think the more pressing matter is what kind of person would be that cruel to host that show in the first place.

4. This is the result of a society that has been conditioned to
accept only instant gratification and material wealth.
Worship the rich and vilify the poor.

Then I had their truck towed to the other end of the county. They have never bothered me since

10. Wrong person, wrong place, forced open gates, broke into (and damaged) an outbuilding
Edited on Fri Apr-29-11 09:03 AM by ProgressiveProfessor
Generally they were idiots. Sheriff was close this time, only took 15 minutes to get here. Assistant took off and I assume got out safely. The driver was arrested. I called the towing company I had an arrangement with and they towed his wrecker to the far end of the county on a heavy duty rig. Cost him a small fortune to get it back.

I am out in the twigs. Nothing near me. The guy seriously screwed up on the location and then claimed his status as a repo agent meant he was allowed to break into buildings etc to effect recovery and so he was immune from arrest.

7. Remember those reality shows ' Workmans Comp fraud' etc..
over and over.I always suspected they were heavily funded by WC insurance companies.

They seemed to imply 'Were watching you and well catch you doing something because we

know youre guilty',if you get injured at work and file for WC you must be trying to game

the system.Yeah there are SOME cases, but the overall message seemed an effort to undermine

public opinion re ANY WC case even though most are legitimate. That system is rife with rot.

All of those pawn-repo-storage locker-picker-sale shows appear to try and pit us against each

other again in some sort of weird depressing grabfest for the leftovers. No mention of what hardship

might have made the sale necessary.Fast forward that part, after all, they f*cked up-its their fault ~right~

plus we can maybe get RICH too.

add to that all your bountyhunter prison shows.Shit stew.}(

8. I checked it out on wikipedia and its not as bad as it sounds
The cars would be repossessed anyway, but if you answer the questions right you get the car back and the show pays it off so you own it free and clear.

I mean, you are getting a chance to win a free car basically, because otherwise they were going to lose the cars anyway.
And I'm sure the people give their consent to be on the show in the first place.

17. Look at the big picture.....
We are using the poor for entertainment. As they become the side show, the corporations rake in millions on advertisement.

20. I agree with you about the big picture actually. However, I see it kind
of like payday lenders/title loans. Yes, they take MAJOR advantage of the poor without access to credit. Yes in the big picture it is a bad thing. But, when someone is forced to use one of the "services" for cash to feed the kids, keep the lights on, or to keep from being evicted that day, it is hard to say "you know, this is bad for you!", without providing any other way to get those funds to the person that needs them NOW.

26. If people were contacted well in advance to consider the decision, and if
there was compensation of some sort no matter the outcome, then I wouldn't completely condemn the producers.

No respect for anyone who would choose to watch the show, however...

13. let's invent some more fun shows...how about "Medical Bankruptcy Fear Factor"
where five families about to lose everything they have because of medical debt get a chance to compete against each other in a game of elimination, sitting naked in cages full of snakes and/or leeches, enduring intense physical pain and utter humiliation, and eating live bugs, rotten meat, and feces. Whoever lasts the longest and eats the most disgusting thing gets their medical debt forgiven! I think America would love to watch this show.

16. I actually think its real because that would be cheaper.
Edited on Fri Apr-29-11 10:58 AM by glen123098
No having to hire actors or produce stages... All they have to do is pay the repo men, the camera guy, the host and on the off chance the person actually wins, they pay off the rest of the car. I don't see why they would fake this. Its very easy to find real poor people to exploit, so whats the point of hiring actors? The reason reality TV exists is because of how cheap it is to produce.

15. I see two kinds of people watching this show:
1) The clueless. (They root for the victim to keep their car)
2) The sociopaths. (They go "Aw, bummer" when the victim keeps their car, and will be indignant of me using the word "victim")

This discussion is not about the actual repossession but rather the side show around it.

Do they want a shit sandwich or do they want a chicken sandwich?

-but the chicken sandwich has just a LITTLE bit of E-coli on it.

But I am not sure I understand your analogy. Both those options are just as bad since feces also has E.Coli. Can you put what you are saying in another way?

Edit: I am reading again what you said. Do you mean that instead of just doing what you were going to to do, you mess with the persons brain along the way for entertainment?

25. Exactly

Both are contaminated. One is obvious, the other is more subtle and insidious, because it comes disguised as 'you're so lucky- were the good guys

look at what we gave you' etc..You lose either way.

The participants do sign a release, but this type of programming panders to a group

of people who thrive on the misfortunes of another-even if they are in the same boat themselves. It gives them a chance to

belittle others- pass cruel judgments. This demonizes the debtor, and also serves to validate predatory creditors and bill collection

tactics. Somebodys hard times are paraded in front of a national audience as entertainment, and everyone is manipulated, all

attempts to shift the negative perception many have of repo men bounty hunters etc.. bullies with power??fan clubs for these assclowns?? WTF

It seems to be wingnut spin-again.

Explanation w/rant-hope it helped-the rant just 'spewed out' sorry.

23. When some people turn on the tv and see someone having a worse day then them
it makes them feel better. They forget about how bad they are getting fucked for a couple of hours, go to bed, and do it all over again the next day.
