Wisconsin Recall: Petitions Filed Against Rob Cowles (R-WI)

MADISON, Wis. (WTAQ) - Organizers of a recall effort against State Senator Rob Cowles say they've filed enough signatures to force a recall election.

Wisconsin Democrats turned in an estimated 26,000 signatures to the Government Accountability Board Thursday. That's well over the 15,960 names required.

Election requests have been filed against nine senators – six Republicans and four Democrats -- for their actions on the bill that would limit public union bargaining powers.

Up to four other senators could face recall votes. Petitions against Senate Republicans Glenn Grothman of West Bend and Mary Lazich of New Berlin must be filed by Monday. One of two petitions against Democrat Mark Miller is due by next Wednesday. And a petition against Stevens Point Democrat Julie Lassa is due May 16.

4. Cowles was an uphill battle

He ran unopposed in 2008 and won with 89% of the vote in 2004.
