I pray to no one.
Edited on Fri Apr-29-11 09:11 AM by Javaman
Neither royals, gods, or politicians.

I pray not to the wealthy, the corporations or the corporate glad handers.

I pray not to the lobbyists, the financial backers or the well connected.

I side with the people, be they stupid, smart, insightful, ignorant or disinterested.

I side with the poor, the disenfranchised, the forgotten.

I side with the worker, the parent, the student.

I honor them, however, I pray to no one.

4. IMO we need a "Solipsism" forum
Edited on Fri Apr-29-11 09:17 AM by HereSince1628
Perhaps I can get a positive response to this...MY MOST EXCELLENT IDEA, and _I_ (!!!111!!) can become a FOUDER of a forum that will serve the interests of the woefully under-represented EGO's of this board.

11. I like the concept, though. A special forum for solipsists.
Do solipsists talk among themselves?

15. Hm. Threads with no one responding other than the OP.
If nothing else, it would be an interesting experiment.

The implications...

25. Point out the obvious and get accused of solipsism.
I was under the impression that progressives wanted progress. An off the cuff remark pointing which direction is progress and which is back-sliding is hardly solipsism. The antithetical theistic view is far more egocentric since it claims to know the mind of the creator of the universe, that claim being that said creator is somehow concerned with us. The OP is actually a rejection of solipsism.

6. Gotta rec it.
Don't know where it came from, but I like it.

And I've never, ever met anyone who thought President Obama was "The Messiah." Only Republicans say that...because they pray to everything, and can't understand why sane people don't.

10. I pray to no one and haven't in at least 50 years
Edited on Fri Apr-29-11 09:36 AM by madokie
The last time I prayed was during the missile crisis's in '61 when I was heavily being taught that there was a hell and a heaven. As I look back I see that was when I realized that I don't believe in this any more. Been a non-believer every since and happy with that decision I made years ago. Now I'm in my later years facing death and all I can think of is finishing the projects I've started so my wife won't have to worry with them after I'm gone but I don't worry about my soul or any of that. I'm like the bug that hits the windshield, when I die I'll be dead. No heaven or hell for this ole boy. My plan is for them to plant a tree where they put the ashes left over just in case I come back as a spirit and need a place to call home, a limb to sit on, you know just a place to be.

Rec'd to no avail, still at 0.
What are they afraid of?

14. I didn't vote on this thread one way or another.
However, I imagine some of those who unrec are a bit confused about the anger in the OP. Declaring one's non-belief with such enthusiasm suggests that the author is attempting to talk loud enough to drown out other, opposing voices in his subconscience.

I've always been curious about atheists who are very vocal about their atheism. It seems strangely contradictory.

18. I had toyed with idea of praying to Darwin
but these views evolved, and I was forced to drop them. Poor Charles was unnaturally selected as a deity, poor sod.

23. Really? He died? Did anyone tell the Right Wingers?
It seems that Darwin and his theories on Natural Selection occupy some prime time real estate in the Right Wing Agenda.

According to some theories, people create their own gods through repetition of thought. Perhaps Darwin will become such a deity, because he is so often evoked as a force by the deniers.
