What Insurance company in it's right mind would insure anyone over 65
For fifteen thousand dollars or any amount of money for that matter? It doesn't take a rocket scientist to understand that people 65 and over have more health issues than younger people.. Insurance Companies are in the business to make money and they don't take foolish chances..Why would they insure such folks? Do Republicans, especially Paul Ryan have an answer for that? In fact Ryan is one of those that wants to do away with the new Health Care Law that forces Insurance Companies to Insure folks they normally would not.. It would seem this would be a question our Democratic Representatives would demand an answer for, but all I hear is crickets..

1. They only do so because the know seniors are double covered by Medicare.

25. Bashing Medicare again? And yet again, with false claims
Edited on Sat Apr-30-11 02:40 PM by CreekDog
that Seniors would be able to get insurance if Medicare did not exist.

yet the lack of access is one of the primary reasons it was created in the first place. and further if the presence of a government program stops you from being able to access insurance on your own --why have millions (not Medicare/Medicaid eligible) been unable to get insurance in the absence of a government program for them?

Stop running down Medicare, but at the very least --DO SOME ACTUAL research so your criticisms and statements aren't completely wrong when you actually post them.

Remember, when you post falsehoods, you only convince people you shouldn't be taken seriously.

:wtf:

2. Oh, they're very eager to provide Medicare supplemental insurance.
The year I turned 65, I got dozens and dozens of expensive mailings trying to get me to sign up. They love selling those supplements.

6. The supplement is just a supplement -- the costs are manageable.
But major medical for the elderly would be prohibitively expensive. And the private insurers wouldn't have the ability to negotiate price cuts, the way Medicare does.

4. Medicare was STARTED because the answer to that question is "none".
But people don't remember that, or better yet, are never taught it in the first place in our increasingly dumbed-down, underfunded school system.

10. Exactly. And Social Security was started because stock markets crash.
The folks wanting to privatize SS don't seem to remember that either.

and maybe this time they don't get everything they want. But if they can get their foot in the door, next time they will take everything.

13. I'm 52. Totally fucked.
I had my "old guy" physical about a week ago. Still have to do the blood tests and colonoscopy. Why should I do it now? If they find something, I'm done. Republicans will give me a voucher for a couple grand and the insurance companies will tell me to fuck off and die. Literally. As long as I don't know if anything is wrong with me, it's not a "pre-existing condition" and I can hope and pray that my company will still keep me on and provide me with insurance.

Little pukes like Ryan and these teenager fuck-bag pretty-boy Tea Baggers can do my colonoscopy for me...stick your fist right up my ass. It appears to be the only thing these freshman douche bags have to offer us.

16. They'd do it if they can bleed you out enough to ensure profits.
God only knows what that figure would be or what exclusions would be there but under profitable conditions, the insurance cartel would be happy to take your money.

21. None
And that's why this voucher system would essentially end our elderly having any kind of health care insurance at all.

22. They will be more than happy to sell you a policy
It will take your government vouchers and then some -- and the policy will be pretty much worthless. They'll cover a tiny portion of your costs, up to an annual limit, and then you're on your own.

If you have dental insurance, you already know how that scheme works. At the end of the day, almost no seniors will have health care -- until they day they show up in the ER for their last visit -- which the insurance company will bill the family for.

23. I'm in my early 30s and can't get private insurance
Edited on Fri Apr-29-11 06:25 PM by Juche
The reason? I have risk factors for type II diabetes and CVD. I don't have the diseases, just risk factors that I am trying to control. It'll be 10-20 years before the risk factors turn into the actual diseases.

So if someone with risk factors can't get insurance, how the fuck does someone with the actual diseases get it affordably?

Obviously Ryan couldn't give a shit if his idea helps people, his only concern is ideological purity. Today's generation of republicans are like hard line islamists or communists. All that matters is ideological purity, even if they have to destroy everyone's lives in order to force reality to match the doctrine.
