Shocker: GOP Rep. Paul Ryan says he also wants to cut ‘corporate welfare’
Source:Reuters

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan said on Thursday he supports cutting tax breaks for the oil industry as lawmakers search for ways to battle rising gasoline prices.

In response to a question at a town hall meeting in Waterford, Wisconsin, the Republican congressman said he agreed that oil company subsidies should end.

"We're talking about reforming the safety net, the welfare system, we also want to get rid of corporate welfare," Ryan said to applause.

A video of the question and answer was posted online in a blog run by the liberal-leaning Center for American Progress Action

Paul Ryan trying to walk back the record

http://www.jsonline.com/news/statepolitics/120932609.html

The Milwaukee Urinal/Sentinel reports on Paul Ryan's latest attempt at damage control.

<snip>

Oak Creek — U.S. Rep. Paul Ryan may not agree with President Barack Obama on a lot of things, but he indicated Thursday during town hall meetings here and in Watertown that he agrees oil subsidies should end.

Ryan, a Janesville Republican, responded to questions about oil company subsidies in the context of his support for ending "corporate welfare."

"We're talking about reforming the safety net, the welfare system; we also want to get rid of corporate welfare," Ryan had said in both Oak Creek and Waterford

<end snip>

Paul Ryan is a dirty, rotten liar. He has already voted to extend the tax subsidies to big oil TWICE this year.

8. If the Dems aren't careful, they'll get outflanked (AGAIN) by their timidity
and failure to lead. This issue is the Dems to pound on and hammer. Looks like the R's are going to steal it away.

Really, what needs to be done here is we need to hound our media outlets and write our papers pointing out his lie.

This country is 100% doomed if we don't take a hand it fixing it. We already know if left to their own devices the media will not bother to point out a false talking point, or even give decent coverage to a Dem attempting to point it out. We have a roll to play in this as well, not just the politicians in office.

12. Tell me some specifics
Tell me exactly which ones you intend to cut, and by how much - you know, in as much detail as you gave for doing away with Medicaid, Medicare and Social Security. With no specifics and only vague assurances that you "want to", I don't believe you. Not that I believe you on anything else, either, but on this in particular, I REALLY don't believe you since you offered nothing concrete.
