Repuke KS Gov brownback says dems only worry about social issues

TOPEKA, Kan. - Republican Gov. Sam Brownback said Friday that his Democratic critics are focusing on social issues to divert attention from efforts by his administration and the GOP-controlled Legislature to improve the economy.

Brownback once publicly called on legislators to create "a culture of life" and has signed two anti-abortion bills and a measure that will require all voters to show photo identification at the polls. But he used a Statehouse news conference to discuss his plans for several economic summits, highlight his economic proposals and nudge legislators toward resolving budget, tax and pension issues.

Democrats have repeatedly accused Brownback and many fellow Republicans of being far more aggressive about pursuing causes favored by religious and social conservatives than in trying to create jobs. In particular, Democrats have cited approval of anti-abortion legislation since Brownback took office in January.

But Brownback said legislators have tackled a wide array of issues and some are difficult, such as cutting state spending and addressing the long-term funding problems facing the pension system for Kansas teachers and government workers.

1. And republicans only worry about numbers.
Big ones for corporate donors and little ones for the rest.

4. it's probably better that way
since their only plans for job creation remain, cutting taxes for corporations, and tax breaks for rich people.

6. Wow. That's funny. I thought the "values voters" were all-powerful.
Odd, that the GOP suddenly doesn't want to talk about all the reactionary crap they've been pushing, isn't it?
