Microsoft's talking paper clip is back

(CNN) -- If you remember "Clippy" -- that googly-eyed paper clip that once hopped out of the corner of the computer screen to "help" with Microsoft Office tasks -- chances are you don't remember him fondly.

Many Office users cringed when the Microsoft cartoon delivered cheerily obvious messages like: "It looks like you're writing a letter."

"I know I'm writing a f-ing letter, you stupid paperclip," one hater wrote on a Facebook page dedicated to Clippy's demise.

Well, like it or not, Clippy is back.

26. Earl the Cat -- was a hilarious sub for Clippy. But only in Office 97.

Earl was extra added download from MS for Office 97. They discontinued the extras for Office 2000, and I stopped using online help.

Earl had many funny bits. When you opened a dialog box he would go behind a screen, dress as a female stenographer, and note the changes you made. When you said "OK" he would change back. I was a very funny add-in.

I saw him once when Office was just installed, and then I clicked a couple times and never saw him again. Why was this a problem for others to do?
