My husband figured out the mystery behind the ugly hats! |
|
He said that Sarah Ferguson was not invited to the wedding because of the divorce and her two daughters knew they were going to sit behind the Queen so they wore FUCK YOU hats to get even.
He said that it was on the news so it has to be true. My impression of those two young ladies has been elevated.

2. I agree with your husband and you |
|
I think they were "fuck you" hats and I now admire the two young women for their defense of Mom - who got royally screwed.

10. I think Queenie threw the first screw |
|
Further, Queenie was incredibly stupid to allow a former royal to find herself in need of money. When one has connections and insider knowledge, and one is desperate for money, one will do what one must do.
I side with Sarah against Queenie.
By the way, I'll bet the real meanie is Phil, not Liz.

11. Nonetheles,, she is their mother and is former wife of a prince. |
|
Graciousness will always rigidly following some ancient rules.
My husband's ex was a seriously problematic woman, master manipulator, trouble-maker, and all round not nice person. However, if she was in the geographic area whenever we had family events where her children were involved, I invited her. After all, she is their mother. My husband accepted it, though he would've preferred to ignore her. I just felt that her children should never be in a position where their mother was being denigrated, especially by me or their father.
My mother was totally bumfuzzled by my position on this, but I always believed it was the right thing to do.
Keep in mind, I dind't like her as a person but I respected her position as their mother. I didn't have to be a "friend" of hers, I just wanted to be respectful, gracious and even kind.

7. It IS puzzling that they all seemed to have no regard for how the bride should be the |
|
focal point of the women at a wedding.
Everyone I know has always decided what to wear to ANY wedding based on this principle. It's just good manners. ODD that the Brits seemed to think it was some kind of circus about them, rather than the wedding couple.

31. And the one woman who appears to have followed that principle |
|
Samantha Cameron, wife of the Prime Minister, is being shredded by the press for NOT wearing a hat. She wore a relatively simple dress and clearly wasn't trying to be the center of attention. Shame on her I suppose.

12. All I know about it is... |
|
The one girl (I don't know one from the other)- she had on something almost fleshy pink, and she looked like she had an alien coming out of her forehead...I do not know how anyone was able to keep a straight face looking at her in it. I lost it completely...and I love hats, but that one was just too much.
There were some awesome hats there, but those girls didn't have them on, bless their hearts!

it worked. That Medusa hat especially was the biggest F U. And I think it's tacky as hell that Fergie wasn't invited. She's still mom to the 5th and 6th successors of the throne.

19. Interesting hypothesis, but it doesn't |
|
ring true to me. Especially when you look at all the other hats there. There were lots and lots and uncountable lots of weird, odd, strange, and grotesque hats, and the hats of the Princesses Eugenie and Beatrice aren't any odder than many of them.
Perhaps more to the point, I find it difficult to think that they would reason that way. Had they shown up hatless, on the other hand, that would have been a stronger statement.
Plus, Sarah Ferguson is simply persona non grata within the royal family, and for good reason, given her behavior over the years. I do understand that she and Andrew get along quite well.

the current parliamentary leaders(understandable as this was a semi-state affair), the past two conservative Prime Ministers, as well several Middle Eastern despots. At the same time, they had no room for the past Labour Prime Ministers (Blair and Brown). A farce indeed.
Damn Tories! :puke:
If Sarah's kids did this to spite the old hag and his wife, then good for them. They really could have done worse by forgoing the hats all together.

22. Might take a while for that to percolate down |
|
if it is why they wore that get-up. Of course, their father would have had some say in what they wore too, so they must have had his blessing.
William & Kate wanted their Aunt Sarah there, but were vetoed by Prince Phillip (talk about someone who shouldn't throw stones). And I don't think what Beatrice & Eugenie wore took one iota away from Kate.
