"...don’t pretend you voted for me. You didn’t." - NY Bagger rep @ Town Hall
Edited on Fri Apr-29-11 09:55 PM by musette_sf
The aptly-named Michael Grimm, proud bagger and new rep for NY's 13th District (formerly represented by Vito "Big Love" Fossella), got razzed pretty good at his recent Town Hall meeting.

Evidently Rep Grimm thinks that he is supposed to represent ONLY the citizens who voted for HIM:

When Ms. Devane said Mr. Grimm was supposed to be representing her, he added: “You wouldn’t vote for me, and I know that. I respect that. So don’t pretend you voted for me. You didn’t.”

So much for baggers and representative democracy...

“The deficit is due to the Bush-era tax cuts,” someone else said.
“The whole deficit is due to the Bush-era tax cuts?” Mr. Grimm asked.

“A good part, a good part,” came the resounding reply.

By George, I think they're GETTING IT!

Here's a list of Rep Grimm's star-studded endorsement panel, aka Baggers On Parade:

(Especially the last "misconception" - don't look at the Kochs, look at the entertainers!)

Just want to say that this is my old neighborhood - my sibs went to McKinley JHS (site of the meeting) - this is the neighborhood where I went door to door back in the day, attempting to get signatures on petitions against the Viet Nam Conflict, and got more doors slammed in my face than any well-meaning teenager deserves. In the "hardhats vs hippies" days, Bay Ridge was definitely hardhat land. It is refreshing, and hopeful, to read that a lot of my old neighbors seem to be getting the picture now. I'm betting that Rep Grimm will, shall we say, enjoy his one and only term as much as he possibly can. And I'm hoping that my neighbors will continue to give him the raft of sh!t he so richly deserves.

On edit: Grimm even has some problems dancing with them what brung him - even some of the local Repubs can't stand him, some disgruntled Pubbies started a blog! (from http://michaelgrimmfactcheck.blogspot.com/) Man oh man, even if I don't agree with a lot of them politically, I love my Brooklyn peeps, they crack me up:

1. So "You didn't vote for me so I don't represent you?"
Wow finally they are starting to say what they really believe.

You weren't totally sure that Rep Grimm is completely bereft of original ideas?
