Regarding the April 27 front-page article "Medicare fight cranks up in N.C.": The irony of U.S. Rep. Renee Ellmers and other Republicans now facing dissent at their town meetings after the tea party campaign waged against Democrats and their health reform town hall meetings in 2010 is quite enjoyable to me. Maybe the robocalls are helping seniors who voted for all the tea party candidates now to realize what that vote means for them. I know what Rep. Paul Ryan's plan would mean for me as I am 54 years old. It would mean I could not have the same standard of living during my retirement that current seniors have.
Ever since the Bush tax cuts were enacted, the real recipients of wealth redistribution have been the billionaires, millionaires and corporations. This redistribution has been on the backs of the middle class, the poor and the elderly, and there has been no real shared sacrifice as the politicians like to call it.
Now the media are focusing on the battle between the Ryan budget plan and President Obama's plan, while having ignored the only budget plan that would address the deficit problem without hurting everyday Americans. That plan was The People's Budget proposed by the Congressional Progressive Caucus, which was voted down.
