Who will the Bears take with the #1 draft pick?

Odds according to FanDuel Sportsbook:

Caleb Williams -20000

Jayden Daniels +7500

Drake Maye +9500

J.J. McCarthy +10000

Marvin Harrison Jr. +20000

The NFL draft is scheduled for Thu, Apr 25, 2024 to Sat, Apr 27.

Bears general manager Ryan Poles knows which player Chicago is going to select with the No. 1 overall pick, but he's not ready to divulge particulars two days ahead of the 2024 NFL draft.

"Unfortunately, it's one of those things I think everyone's got to tune in on Thursday to watch and figure out, but I feel really good about our process and where we are and where we're headed," Poles said during his pre-draft news conference. "We know what we're going to do, but everyone is going to have to wait until Thursday to go there."

The No. 1 pick, which the Bears earned from a trade with the Carolina Panthers, is expected to be USC quarterback Caleb Williams. The 2022 Heisman Trophy winner was the only quarterback prospect hosted by the Bears this month on a top-30 visit. Conversely, Williams made only one visit -- to Halas Hall -- during his pre-draft process.

You may see headlines today proclaiming Shohei Ohtani the new #1 Japanese HR king

He surpassed Hideki Matsui for the most MLB homers by a Japanese-born player with 176.

Of course Sadaharu Oh (who's still alive at age 83, BTW) hit 868 dingers in the Japanese Central League, mostly in the '60s and '70s. There have been numerous debates about how many MLB home runs Oh would have hit had he played in North America. It's all conjecture, of course, but this fellow took the time to study the issue in-depth.

Based on his projections, Oh would have been racked up an estimated 527 HRs in "the Bigs."

Reclining seats on planes might go away in the future!

I'd rejoice! Can't stand when the person in front of me puts their seat back as far as it can go and I have barely any space left. So annoying.

The controversial debate of reclining your seat on the plane may soon come to an end thanks to airline companies wanting to cut back on costs.

With airlines like Southwest debuting a more streamlined seat design for 2025, it’s only a matter of time before reclining seats disappear completely, aviation and travel expert William McGee told Condé Nast Traveler during an interview published on Monday, April 15.

“This trend has been occurring for several years now, and I think it will continue. Lighter seats are what the airlines want, because with the cost of jet fuel they are always looking to reduce weight onboard,” McGee, a senior fellow for aviation and travel at the American Economic Liberties Project, said.

He adds that lighter, non-reclining seats require fewer mechanical parts, and thus airline companies also save money when it comes to maintenance.

National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics bans transgender athletes from women's sports

Just posted on ESPN:

The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics, the governing body for mostly small colleges, announced a policy Monday that all but bans transgender athletes from competing in women's sports.

The NAIA Council of Presidents approved the policy in a 20-0 vote. The NAIA, which oversees some 83,000 athletes at schools across the country, is believed to be the first college sports organization to take such a step.

According to the transgender participation policy, all athletes may participate in NAIA-sponsored male sports but only athletes whose biological sex assigned at birth is female and who have not begun hormone therapy will be allowed to participate in women's sports.

A student who has begun hormone therapy may participate in activities such as workouts, practices and team activities, but not in interscholastic competition.
