Shots fired at Camp Shelby soldiers

Source: Clarion-Ledger

Perry County Sheriff Jimmy Dale Smith confirmed to The Clarion-Ledger that shots were fired at approximately 12:10 p.m. at soldiers who were training in the area. No injuries were reported. Smith said his agency has "a few good leads" in the shooting. Authorities are searching for two white male suspects in a two-door red Ford Ranger with "Broken Arrow" written across the top.

Hobby Lobby decision rips the corporate veil

The Supreme Court has given Corporations a Gift That They may Live to Regret[/link]

According to a law professor from New York University, Burt Neuborne, “If religious shareholders can do it, why can’t creditors and government regulators pierce the corporate veil in the other direction?” The same question was raised by 44 other law professors who filed a friends-of-the-court brief that implored the Court to reject Hobby Lobby’s argument and keep the corporate veil in place. They argued that, “Allowing a corporation, through either shareholder vote or board resolution, to take on and assert the religious beliefs of its shareholders in order to avoid having to comply with a generally-applicable law with a secular purpose is fundamentally at odds with the entire concept of incorporation. Creating such an unprecedented and idiosyncratic tear in the corporate veil would also carry with it unintended consequences.”

Incorporation exists to distinguish human beings from business entities. Hobby Lobby effectively demolishes the concept by transferring the religious beliefs of the owners to the corporation. Owners can no longer claim protection from legal liability since the corporation-person and the person-person are one and the same.

Cochran wins runoff; McDaniel refuses to concede, plans challenge

Source: Clarion-Ledger

Thad Cochran has won the GOP nomination for U.S. Senate for the seventh time, squeaking past challenger Chris McDaniel in a runoff Tuesday, according to unofficial results.

But McDaniel didn't concede Tuesday night and in a speech to supporters referenced "dozens of irregularities" in voting Tuesday and indicated he would challenge the results over Democrats voting in the Republican primary.

Cochran led McDaniel 51 percent to 49 percent, in a turnout that spiked from 319,000 voters in the June 3 primary to more than 360,000 for Tuesday's runoff. He will face former U.S. Rep Travis Childers, a Democrat, in the November general election.

To absolutely no one's surprise, Chris McDaniel refused to concede tonight despite a clear win by Thad Cochran. The legal challenge will be filed first thing in the morning. This campaign is not over...

Tea Party threatens Lawsuit in MS

Tea Party group hires elections lawyer[/link] in advance of GOP Senate runoff in Mississippi. This race is looking better and better for Travis Childers.

Faked endorsements in MS Senate race

In a last ditch effort last week, the Thad Cochran campaign appealed to Democrats to vote in the GOP primary in order to block the Tea Party candidate, Chris McDaniel. Ironically, Republicans have voted in Democratic primaries for years because so many local officials are still registered Democrats. Cochran ads have been running during the past week that are intended to appeal to the black community.

Tonight, twitter accounts from Democratic voters in south Mississippi reported that they had received robocalls from Johnny Dupree, the Democratic mayor of Hattiesburg, urging them to vote for Republican Thad Cochran. Mayor Dupree quickly denied the endorsement[/link]. By tomorrow morning, the story will be all over the major newspapers. Just in time for voting.

There is no way to know who produced the calls. The Barbour brothers who are running the Cochran campaign might have done this but it seems crude. Austin Barbour was a top advisor in the Romney campaign. There is too much danger that a faked endorsement could blow back on the candidate in the general election. This kind of stunt has Chris McDaniel's fingerprints all over it.

background info

The McDaniel campaign has repeatedly insinuated that Thad Cochran's mental capability is diminished due to his age. Cochran's campaign has fueled the gossip by carefully restricting access to their candidate. Other than photo ops, I cannot recall ANY campaign ads in which Cochran actually speaks. When he speaks on the campaign trail or in the Senate, he always reads from a prepared script.

Clayton Kelly went after Mrs Cochran in an effort to reinforce the rumors about her husband. The incident occurred nearly a month ago on or around April 26th (date that the video was uploaded). The Cochran family was informed of the trespass at the time but chose not to press charges until last week.

Coincidentally, the Cochran campaign faced a tough week in which allegations were made regarding his relationship with his administrative assistant and her role as defacto senator in his office. The conflict came to a head on May 15th when Cochran campaign spokesman Jordan Russell got into a shouting match with Chris McDaniel[/link] on the steps of the state capitol. Charges were filed that afternoon.

Jackson Jambalaya[/link] did a great job breaking this story. The details are both creepy and hilarious. Apparently it is not that difficult to gain access to a Senator's wife in a high dollar nursing home. I know where St. Catherine's is located in Madison. Always thought that it was more of an "assisted living" facility but apparently they have a dementia unit.

The Mississippi GOP primary is a little more than two weeks away on June 3rd.

Congressman brags about his role in latest Benghazi investigation on FB

MS Congressman Steven Palazzo brags about his role in prompting latest Benghazi investigation. More red meat for his base. link to Palazzo FB page[/link]

My brother in law shook hands with Thad Cochran last week

He said that he looks like he should be in a nursing home instead of running for U.S. Senate. Old Thad is extremely frail.

Mississippi GOP chairman is being stalked by Tea Party

And today a Tea Party leader within the state called for Joe Nosef to resign[/link] as chairman.

The senate race just keeps getting nastier and nastier. Nosef's twitter account[/link] gives some idea of the never-ending harassment that he is getting from RWNJ. Thad Cochran is a stereotypical Southern gentleman who is widely liked in the state. He probably would have stepped down from the Senate seat if it weren't for Tea Party candidate Chris McDaniel who announced his candidacy back in November.

Audio clips from McDaniel's talk radio show provide lots of material for the Cochran campaign. Here is the famous boobie clip[/link] in which he plays on ignorant listeners confusion between "liberalism" and "libertarianism". He obviously has aspirations to campaign against Rand Paul someday.

Chris McDaniel is currently lagging in polls but anything is possible at this point. The fact that Travis Childers is running on the Democratic ticket is significant. There is speculation that the former House member from north Mississippi would not have entered the race if he thought that Thad would win the primary. Even if Cochran survives the challenge from McDaniel, damage to the GOP brand in Mississippi may be enough to scare moderates into voting against the 36 year incumbent.
