What does YOUR rep/senator write re: constituent services?

Senator Richard Burr: (R-NC)

http://www.burr.senate.gov/public/

Beginning October 1st, the federal government will shut down and all non-essential operations will cease until Congress and the White House reach an agreement to restore funding.

As a result, my offices in Winston-Salem, Asheville, Gastonia, Rocky Mount, and Wilmington will be closed and constituent service operations will be temporarily suspended for the duration of the shutdown. Unfortunately this means that my office will not be able to assist with situations involving Social Security benefits, Medicare and Medicaid, veterans’ benefits, immigration matters, passports, the Internal Revenue Service, securing military medals for veterans, or matters pertaining to any other federal government agency. All current enrollees in Social Security and Medicare should see no interruption in their benefits.

Additionally, my office in Washington, D.C. will be operating at very limited capacity to support the core legislative functions needed to end the shutdown and restore government operations.

My colleagues and I are working to resolve this matter as soon as possible.

but then there are beautiful moments

where you see McCrookie's polls falling faster than a freefall ride at the fair.

where you see people from every part of society come together and hold hands in a loving way, and you can feel the power of the crowd pulsing through you.

When you've met so many amazing people both online and in person that you'd go so far out of your way for, to put up in their need, to support through the emotional days, and to engage more people in the movement.

Join me. Feel the power of Moral Monday. Feel the communities coming together to create change.

You might say I'm a dreamer... But let's dream together.

How about next week in Yadkinville?

Petition: Protect the voting rights of the citizens of NC... (at whitehouse.gov)

As y'all know, there was some awful legislation passed this session. I could go on and on about which was the most harmful, and to which groups...

But in the spirit of the Forward together/Moral Monday Movements, what's an affront to one is harmful to all. And it really all starts with voting rights.

So.

There's a petition out there at whitehouse.gov-( I was number 11 to sign it, just so you know that I'm not asking y'all to do anything I wouldn't, lol) to "Protect the Voting Rights of the citizens of North Carolina and Investigate new voting restrictions enacted in state."

in order for this petition to be potentially acted on, WE NEED 100,000 petition signatures by Sept 29th. If you don't already have an account at whitehouse.gov, it takes about 3 minutes to sign up, and then you can create petitions of your own, (after you sign this one, right? ) or sign other people's petitions to their government.

You don't need to be from NC, or live in NC to sign this. Therefore, if you have an aunt in South Dakota, they can help assure your rights to have your vote be counted, not challenged, or have your entire COUNTY suddenly have to vote in one site like in Watauga county, where 10,000 North Carolinians are forced to vote in ONE location on election day... because the Republican-led BOE mandated it at a meeting, and then.... made sure the notes from the meeting were destroyed

Please help save our equal right to participate in a participatory democracy. It only takes a few minutes to sign the petition. It also takes only a few more minutes to share this with friends... ESPECIALLY if you put it up on facebook or twitter or other social media sources.

Thank you for reading this.

The link to the petition can be found at: http://wh.gov/l4232

Thank you from my family and friends for signing.

Precocious Preteen North Carolinian on the Melissa Harris Perry Show 8/31/2013

North Carolina's own Madison Kimrey (12yo) makes it on the Melissa Harris-Perry show!

If you haven't heard about Ms. Kimrey, you really need to watch this precocious pre-teen. (the cake girl), and feel proud of the next generation of activists. She started a petition with Moveon, and got 12k signatures to sit down with McCrony (oops) and talk about voting rights. |

]

When he didn't take her seriously, she created a youtube video to hopefully engage him in a conversation. |
|]

Unfortunately, Madison still waits for a meeting with the governor. But this wonderful young person is a joy to be around, and smart as a whip. Good luck, Madison!

If you want to help, feel free to tweet the governor at @PatMcCroryNC , and let him know you stand behind my friend, and wonderful advocate, and regardless of her age, she (and her family) are North Carolinians petitioning their governor for a brief meeting.

This young woman is amazing. She is not being pushed by her family... she's just that much of a special individual.

Not one step back,

Hugs, Cali. They're tough words to write.

You're not complaining. Venting is healthy, provided you take something from the vent, and don't stay stuck in a "woe is me" pity party constantly.

And while you don't know me well at all, largely 'cause I spent time modding and not posting on DU, I know that you're a strong person, from what I've seen.

I have lots of chronic ick, and it's really hard not to overdo, especially with my Migraine Disease... but my neck is a biggie, and i know that i have good days and bad days, and if my neck gets flarey, i'm not happy.

I have a wrist injury- right wrist- was rear ended- and torn ligaments, TRCC, and had to have bone scraped lapro. I don't have much cartilage there, so, sometimes, carrying groceries up the stairs can be occasionally painful.

Soft tissue and nerve damage are (IMHO) the worst, as they don't have targeted meds- other than powerful RX meds for the conditions. (notice i didn't say nerve injury)

Sometimes, I want to scream. Or vent.

And I have safe places- both online and off. But I'd like to think that this forum could be a safe place for all of us.

And... well.. DH never understood about severe chronic pain...until he had a severe break- and comes with screws and plates in his leg. We both now joke about feeling the weather changing....

Hugs
