Jacob's Soboroff's comprehensive, thoughtful + sensitive reporting of the travesty that was RTump's border policy of child separation brought me to tears on multiple occasions. That children may be subjected to similar abuse if RTump is re-elected is beyond outrageous + criminal. These children were subjected to harms that will never be addressed or remedied...
The film is based on journalist Jacob Soboroff's book “Separated: Inside an American Tragedy.” I am grateful that Jacob will not let these children + their families be forgotten...
Thankful as well that Errol Morris is able to portray these events on film... Morris, writing in a director's statement, said he intended the film to be both an exploration of the “terrible misdeeds of our recent past” + a “cautionary tale for the future.”
The film will be screened on MSNBC on 12/07/2024.

Trump has finally scheduled an event in Pennsylvania, aimed at winning over Polish voters in Bucks County. But now, for unstated reasons, the Trump campaign is cancelling the event at the last minute. So what’s going on?
It could be a number of things. There is, for instance, an exploding scandal today that’s on the verge of taking down North Carolina Republican Governor candidate Mark Robinson. But what would that have to do with a Trump event in Pennsylvania? It’s possible Trump is going into hiding completely as the Robinson scandal plays out. But it could easy be something else.

What is the Baker Act?
Chapter 394 of the Florida Statutes is known as the Baker Act or the Florida Mental Health Act. A Baker Act proceeding is a means of providing an individual with emergency service for mental health evaluation (examination) and/or treatment (placement).
Who can petition the court to initiate an Involuntary Baker Act Examination?
Any individual who is of age and who has witnessed the actions of a person and believes that person to be a threat to themselves or others and is willing to give testimony to that, can file a petition for Involuntary Examination.
How do I petition the court for an Involuntary Baker Act Examination?
Appear in person at the Clerk of the Circuit Court & Comptroller's office to complete a sworn affidavit/petition.
Arrive at the office by 3:30 PM to allow time for processing.
Provide information as to the respondent’s (person subject to the Baker Act) behavior, identification and location).
If the emergency services are required after hours, on the weekend or on a holiday, please contact your local law enforcement who shall take the person who appears to meet the criteria for involuntary examination into custody and deliver the person to an appropriate facility or the nearest facility within the designated receiving system for an involuntary examination. (F.S. 394.462(2)(a)2.
What happens after the petition is completed and filed with the clerk?
The clerk initiates a court case.
The file is taken to the presiding Magistrate for review.
The Magistrate makes a recommendation to the court to grant or deny the petition.
If the person meets the criteria for the Baker Act, the judge signs an order granting the petition.
Certified copies of the order are delivered to the Warrant’s Division of the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office.
The respondent is picked up and taken to the hospital or mental health facility by the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office for an evaluation.
A person may be held for up to 72 hours for an evaluation.
The evaluation may result in authorized staff at the facility petitioning the court for an Involuntary Baker Act Treatment/Placement order.
If the order for treatment is granted by the court, the person may be held at the facility for up to 6 months for treatment.

I'm in tears...
Twice in my life I had the good fortune to work on teams w/ Dr Fauci. The first was during the HIV/AIDs scourge; the second was during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Their conversation has triggered such an intense response deep in my psyche. Those health crises were dark days; however, Dr Fauci kept his teams focused on our quest to save lives. Our mantra: Great communication. Data integrity. Devoted patient care.
I would entrust my life to the care of Dr Fauci in a heartbeat. I will always be grateful for his service to humanity.
Four instructors from Cornell College, IA stabbed while visiting Jilin City, China

According to the college, the four instructors from Cornell College were stabbed while visiting a park in Jilin City, China, over the weekend. The instructors were on a trip as part of a partnership Cornell has with a university in China, Cornell President Jonathan Brand said in a statement sent to Cornell students.
"We have learned that four Cornell instructors teaching as part of a partnership with a university in China were injured in a serious incident during a daytime visit to a public park while accompanied by a faculty member of the partner institution," Brand wrote. "We have been in contact with all four instructors and are assisting them during this time. There were no students taking part in this program."
