(6,084 posts)There are a whole lot of people standing behind him. Federal and state law enforcement, people with standing to press civil suits, and law enforcement in other countries. Mueller is very valuable, but not indispensable.

(25,270 posts)Where are the people with standing to press civil suits? What about the law enforcement in other countries?
Why hasn't any of this happened yet given the flagrant abuse by Trump?
He keeps doing what he is doing and he keeps getting away with it. I haven't really seen any evidence of the rule of law to this point.
We've only seen some actions by Mueller (Manafort, Papadocoulous, Flynn, etc) and where has that got us?
Even the Congressional Panels seem to be petering out.

(6,084 posts)...the way impeachment procedures are laid out in the Constitution make it essentially political. Mueller isn't going off half-cocked.
He (and everybody really) must realize at this point that there are several endgames that don't involve Trump being impeached in the House, convicted in the Senate, and physically removed from the White House. The scariest is that Trump simply declares martial law and takes over. Mueller doesn't have a direct way of preventing this, but he can guarantee that the resulting damage to Trump, his family, and his associates will be so devastating that Trump won't do it. Mutually assured destruction. This is where Mueller's army comes in. If Trump goes extralegal, they'll feel free to go extralegal too. Don't you think Angela Merkel's and Emmanuel Macron's law enforcement people could do something amazing with a flood of documents about Trump's international dirty dealings? And what do you think it would do to America's stature if an actual audio recording of Trump and Putin conspiring to divvy up this country went viral? You know, people who embarrass Putin...well, they have a real hard time getting life insurance.
You get the idea. Mueller et al. may be squeaky-clean due process types in public, but I'm betting that they know this is nasty stuff and they have some of their own down and dirty moves ready.

(25,270 posts)Then why aren't the Dems being real vocal now to begin to drum up the GOTV for the 2018 election. This election is upon us now and I really don't see the Dems making any great strides to stimulate the electorate to the ballot box. And we haven't even addressed how we are going to prevent any Russian or any other outside influence in that election.
The Repugs are still going to suppress the vote and pull other dirty tricks to maintain their power base.
Are you really that confident in your 'we still have the ballot' point?

(90,784 posts)I will never forget one sign at an airport, made out of a cut-up cardboard box: FIRST THEY CAME FOR THE MUSLIMS, AND WE SAID "NOT TODAY, MOTHERFUCKERS."
Not today.
