I do not know what happened to Graham. Maybe his real self killed off the Russian troll in his place. Whatever.
He certainly has changed his tune. I will give him some credit but he never should have surrendered his dignity in the first place.
It is telling that few if any other elected officials have recersed course.
(Had to be my letter. lol)

(17,111 posts)He called Tom Cotton the Steve King of the Senate.
It is rare to see such shade thrown openly at members of his own party.
He has openly talked about the continuuing debate being hard on Dreamers. I havent heard anybody else over there even act like they arehuman beings.
Yes, he should have been here forever with this view. I didnt expect him to cross Trump again in any way, shape or form.

(145,232 posts)I would *think* the sudden Drumpf smackdown rant about "shithole countries" in the middle of his discussing his bipartisan compromise bill, was possibly considered about as rude and insulting as can be (perhaps not the content but the gall that he was interrupted by some "damn yankee" ).

(12,741 posts)I bet my social security check that those golfing meetings in the past month or so have been all about Lindsey offering to guide Trump into a pre-emptive strike on N Korea.
Look for that to happen in the run up to the midterms. Graham is a in the rear with the gear runt who loves to see the blood of others spill.

(180 posts)Cause I believe Lindsey is helping Mueller. I am not a fan of Lindsey, but I believe he knows that Trump is acting on Putin's orders to destroy America from within. He probably made some sort of promise to Mccain to stop Trump. Just my opinion.

(121,860 posts)I wondered whether he was trying to position himself for an appointment to SoS when Tillerson leaves (or is fired) - or maybe Trump has some dirt on him. I've changed my mind. Whatever else you want to say about Graham, he's not a stupid man; I think he saw that the only way anybody can deal with Trump is by flattering him excessively - thus the fawning over 45's impossible golf scores, for example. I think Graham thought if he made "friends" with Trump he'd have some influence on whether Trump supported his legislative efforts.
So, assuming Trump was now his golf buddy and everything was copacetic, Graham and Durbin put together the framework for an agreement on immigration, and they mosey on over to the White House thinking Trump would buy in and they'd have a done deal. But they get there and Trump, having got a stern talking-to beforehand by nativists Kelly, Miller and Cotton, torpedoes the whole thing with his "shithole" comments. Whereupon Graham realizes Trump is not his friend and can't be trusted as far as he can throw a grand piano.
Whether Graham decides to try the suckup treatment again remains to be seen, but I think he saw how far Trump's "loyalty" goes. Kelly and the other hardliners convinced Trump that restoring DACA wouldn't play well well with his base, so that was the end of that.
