I know I have lived a life of crime, so now I will put myself in the biggest spotlight in the world.

A presidential campaign. I do not believe anybody will notice. How dumb can you get?

Trump and all the crooked people that joined his campaign are some of the dumbest people on the planet. Mueller is going destroy them and it will be easy.

would only be a problem if Trump actually won, which was (he thought) impossible, so he had nothing to worry about.

I'm guessing some of these guys have gotten away with so many big crimes for so many years that they've come to believe the law can't touch them, and if they do get caught they'll just use their millions to hire enough lawyers to get them off.

Or, alternatively, somebody who may owe the Russian mafia a lot of money and can't find a lender may be willing to do most anything to "get whole" before their coffee starts to taste weird.
