(16,199 posts)Lost power at 5pm. Winds are still roaring and many trees are down on local roads. Im waiting for morning to get my generator online since the rain, snow, and sleet going sideways makes it too dangerous to hook up the transfer switch.

(20,246 posts)I miss CT, but not some of the winter weather. Couldn't cope now. Too rickety!
All the best......

(43,049 posts)We get storms like this at least once a year, and crews are out there dealing with them. Nasty seas on the South Shore by the Atlantic and enough heavy seas on the Sound that the ferry to Connecticut is cancelled. Connecticut, btw, usually gets more outages than we do and I have no idea why.
Some trees down and no doubt some waterfront buildings have damage, but that's par for the course. A couple of months ago we had a big storm and Southold Town Hall got flooded with a few hundred thousand in damage. Haven't heard anything about this month yet.
No rain any more, but still pretty windy out there.

(16,199 posts)My town, Montville, just seems to take a beating. Some of it is a lot of old trees and the rest I think is the hills getting us closer to the high winds aloft.

(11,914 posts)Just had the dog out and walked around with my one arm protecting my head. Should probably invest in a hard hat. It looks like a war zone outside with good-sized branches down everywhere. I opened the garage door to take her out, and 5 or 6 branches the size of my arm blew in. There are several thousand people in New Castle County without power (at least the last time I checked around 9pm). The closer you get to PA the number goes up. I've been listening to the fire board radio tonight and we've had several trees down on houses, some house fires due to wires down, etc.
I'll be glad when tonight is over. Not sure I want to sleep upstairs, so I may sleep in the living room with the kids tonight.

(5,523 posts)That's why we save the ashes from the wood stove, The town snow plow got temporarily stuck at the end of our driveway. My son was plowing the end in our old Ford when the town plow appeared. There wasn't any way to get out of the way so my son drove down the road to find a place to turn around. The plow driver must have felt badly so he tried to do the end of the drive for us and got off the edge of the road. Since he had a whole dump full of cinders he finally got out and my son returned to finish up. We do it all over again in the morning. Most of my neighbors have tractors or other heavy equipment so everybody gets out OK.

(9,265 posts)Had the most frightening drive of my life coming home today. DH sat behind a 16-car pileup for 6 hours, left work at 4, got home at 10 (normally a half hour). And it was totally unexpected, the forecast was for rain. So schools were open and everyone went to work this AM.

(9,791 posts)It snowed all day and left about a foot of snow here. It's extremely windy. The power stayed on so we're good.

(205,320 posts)After temperatures over 50 on Wednesday that melted a lot of the snowbanks, it snowed here all night and all day. Places around here got up to two feet of heavy wet snow. Schools were closed and there were a lot of accidents and some power outages reported. I finally made it out in the evening, got stuck in the driveway and was afraid I wouldn't get out till Spring. The main roads were pretty clear, the snowplows did a good job, but not much traffic. On the local news they said some areas to the south got over three feet and even the snowplows were getting stuck. We're safe here and have heat, it's above freezing now, but it was not a pleasant day.
